Yesterday Matador and I went on a 12 hour drive - 561.2Km - it was awesome!

I ate lollies.

I now have a flat/apartment/unit of my very own. To rent, anyway.

It has 2 bedrooms, a balcony, is on the 3rd floor, has aircon in the bedrooms and oh did I mention it's fully furnished?

Even better, it's in a nice area right near the shops, a hop skip and jump from the "beach" and is only a 25 min drive (max) to work. Which is about as far as it gets in Darwin.

Best of all, the ridiculous weekly rent of $380 will be subsidised by the Australian taxpayer (your money at work, fellow Aussies :p) to the tune of up to $300 per week. That's right - per WEEK. Meaning I will pay around the $80-100 mark. Happy days.

It was my second choice. The first choice was a slightly better location with a spa on the balcony and a better view so unfortunately it went quickly. On the downside it wasn't furnished besides a fridge and washing machine. So all in all I think I've done OK.

And entitled to feel just a bit smug.

More than my usual smug, anyway. :D

Well, since I don't pay tax anymore, good on ya.

You guys get so many great benefits. One of my friends at ADFA earns $450 a week just to study. It's ludicrous.

Spent the whole day running around a mediocre theme park with a bunch of good mates for one of their birthdays, acting like kids again and generally having fun, ending with a BBQ on a beach. I am broken, battered and feeling fucking awesome.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Now that IS sweet.

I'm excited because my friend is flying back here for the start of classes, from Edinburgh, so I won't have to pay the absurd shipping costs to get my DoD to the other side of the world.

Got home from work today and my Mom had stopped by and put this soup she makes (green beans, potatoes and BACON) and fresh sliced peaches in my fridge. No turkey sandwich tonight.

Thanks mom!

This is making me happy right now. A thousand times, yes.

Only two weeks before I leave my job!

Which is good. I've been in archaeology for 9 years, but I'm going back to working in operating theatres as from 7th september.

At least I'm lucky enough to have another career to return to!
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

@ Traveller
How'd you manage that. Are you a nurse, or anaesthetist? I only suggest those since I'd be REALLY shocked if you were going back to being a surgeon after a 9 year absence.

Either way, Good Luck with it.

Not a Dr - I'm an anaesthetic technician. I was still doing agency work during my degree, and a bit after, so it's really only been a 5 year break, but I still need an update.

Looking forward to it!
