This is awesome, but the coat looks a bit out of place... dunno, just looks very modern.

Thanks guys :D

@Brood
It is a standard issue Malazan raincoat.
I do admit that I'm a little unsure as to what it should actually look like. Maybe a little darker.

Probably should be a little bit darker, yes. Also, I suspect the raincapes didn't have sleeves - I always imagined a slightly shaped tarpaulin, basically :D "Cape" rather than "coat" being the key.

Ah, but it is a raincoat. That I do remember.

No offense, but you remember wrongly. First of all, the word raincoat (or 'rain coat' for that matter) is never used in GotM.

Secondly, I assume you are intending to depict Paran around the time he confronts the Hound Gear in Tattersail's quarters? (judging from the bear-like face in the background?)If so, he is described as follows:

'the halting appearance of Captain Paran, wrapped in the colourless woollen blanket that covered him down to his ankles. Pale and drawn, the man moved forward' (GotM, UK MMPB, pg. look it up yourself if you don't believe me)

In any case, the first point stands. No such thing as a Malazan raincoat. You don't need to rely on your memory when you have the book(s) :D

That being said, good work. Give him some stubble and it could be Harry Dresden :D

Um... found these quotes in GoTM...

Before the Pale enfilade...

Quote

Off to one side Hairlock waited, wrapped in the dark grey raincloak that was his battle attire—looking smug.

Before the hounds' attack on T'sail...

Quote

In front of the large, rambling estate, two blocks from the old palace, that had become part of the 2nd's quarters, two marines wrapped in black raincapes stood guard outside the main gate.

Dujek/ Fiddler/ W'jack's rooftop meeting...

Quote

The wind flung rain against Whiskeyjack's face. Faintly through the dark night the fourth bell clanged. The sergeant pulled his raincape tighter and wearily shifted his stance.

Before boarding quorls to Darujhistan...

Quote

They watched as the squad members emerged from the square doorway, each wearing a raincape and burdened with a heavy pack. Fiddler and Hedge were engaged in a whispering argument, the latter casting a glare back at Trotts who'd trodden on his heel.

:D So not to be pedantic, but there was such a thing as a Malazan raincape... the squad were issued these... Not sure if Paran had one though.

@ Skywalker. Pedantic Bear says "he specified raincoat, NOT raincape or raincloak" :D

Skywalker - A cloak or a cape are very different from a coat. Mostly in that they tend not to have arms.

What is the different between a cape and a cloak?

A cloak is 'wide' enough to wrap around you in front, and a cape is not?

Most of the military rain gear I've seen is of the poncho variety. The soldiers want to be able to get to whatever they have strapped on their chests and backs pretty quickly and have their hands unencumbered by extra sleeves.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I stand corrected :D

The pic is meant to be Paran strugling with stomach cramps and heartache (MoI).
The hound is sort of... symbolic... ish. Haunting him.

I always thought a cape had no hood but a cloak did.
