This thread is for awesome quotes. Page numbers if you can be bothered.

Page 595

Quote

Samar Dev rose and searched round, but darkness was fast swallowing the plain. She turned with a query on her lips, and saw that Karsa had straightened and was looking skyward, to the northeast. And there, in the deepening blue, a dragon was gliding towards them.

'Worse than moths,' Traveller muttered.

I fucking love this one.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

For great comedy:

Page 853

Quote

"I shall call him Tufty," said Raest.

Had me in fits. A welcome break from the grimness of that time.

And as a real awesome quote, one that made me think a lot more of Kallor:

Page 867

Quote

The High King's face was ravaged with grief, and all that raged in the ancient man's eyes - well, none of it belonged. Not to the legend that was Kallor. Not to the nightmares roiling round and round his very name.

I even felt sorry for the madman.

There are plenty more fantastic quotes, which I'll probably find in my reread.

ST and Cot. ST starts.

'Pust? Back in the temple, poring through the archives of the Book of Shadows.'
'Looking for what?'
'Some provision, any provision, for a High Priest of Shadow having two wives.'
'Is there one?'
'How should I know?'
'Well,' Cotillion said, 'didn't you write it?'
Shadowthrone shifted about 'I was busy.'
'So who did?'
Shadowthrone would not answer.
Cotillion's brows rose. 'Not Pust! The Book of Shadows, where he's proclaimed the Magus of High House Shadow?'
'It's called delegation.' Shadowthrone snapped.
'It's called idiocty.'
'Well hee hee I dare say he'll find what he's looking for, won't he.'
'Aye, with the ink still wet.'

And then he does write it in there. Excellent. I want to know how he went from fighting Kruppe to fucking his wife though.

not reading anything else in the thread to avoid potential spoilers but I have to say how hilarious I found this shadowthrone quote xD

"Saw his head off Cotillion, I hate him already"

too good.

I cant say I felt this was one of the better books in either a narrative or storyline perspective but

Quote

I shall call it Tufty
is probably some sort of new record.

"Mule sees mule".
Kruppe's mule refered to as "warmule" was hilarious.
And two pages later, a window into the mind of a small, annoying, winged monkey:
"Mlawhlaoblossblayowblagmilebbingoblaiblblafblablallblayarblababnablahblallb
lah!"
My first thought was that SE had snapped and rolled his face over his keyboard.

When I read the dramatis personae and saw Pust was now also called the God of the Bokharala I had to put the book down for a second.

Same when I read there would be two new hounds.

I adored "Lady Envy, a bystander" in the Dramatis Personae

and p. 218: Happy days! after a Kruppe-narrator moment.

My absolute favourite:

'Now, _turn it around_.'

Simply awesome.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

I'm intrigued but haven't read the book yet, care to elaborate? In spoiler tags if necessary, if you please, so others don't see something they don't wanna see. (altho i dont know what they are doing in this part of the forum if they don't wanna see spoilers).

OK, but don't read if you don't really want to know.

Son of Darkness, now is that a title for a bureaucrat? Knight of Darkness to keep the thugs off the streets?

'You said she loved him once. What happened'
'He acquired Dragnipur. At least I imagine that was the cause. She is well named, is my sister'

It's funny I still don't quite understand Spite. I can understand the notion of Envy and how her nature shapes her, but Spite? How does your actions take shape if you're constantly moved by spite?

I'm guessing she has a meanstreak?
