@ Masan's Saddle - glad to see someone else is watching Luther. Enjoyed the 1st season. didn't see the season finale coming. A real surprise. I'll be interested to see where they go with season 2, as there are only 4 episodes listed on IMDB and Wikipedia.

So I'm guessing they'll go with 1 case for all 4 episodes.


Glad that you and Polish both mentioned "The Shadow Line". I've been wanting to find another series to watch, and I love the slow storytelling of british crime dramas. So I'll have to check that out.

I hope you're aware that series 2 has already started. I gather that two of the episodes are supposed to be 2 hours, but I don't know if it ended up that way.

I find Luther interesting, but a 3 star show with 5 star leads, basically. It sings whenever Luther and Alice are on screen together, but it's very uneven in other places. Still, it is good.

I'm recommending Wilfred on FX (adapted dark Australian comedy for American television). Funny, smart, dark . If you are a dog owner you will not be disappointed.

Watched THE SHADOW LINE. Thought it was well made, but ultimately not as good as i'd hoped it would be. I didn't like how they ended it, and so it loses marks from me for that.

Have been watching season 2 of LUTHER, and I'm really looking forward to the last episode, and how they'll wrap it up.

Aside from those, i can't really think of any other shows I'd want to watch.

Yeah, it does seem pretty good. Gave the first episode a shot, though I do want to see what everyone else sees.

Watched Battle L.A. last night.

Considering what I'd heard I went in with low standards and came out pretty much neutral.
My two biggest complaints are:

-The camera work. Unless you are actually doing a camcorder movie do not imitate it, especially when there's no action in the scene.
-The melodrama. I don't care.

The jingoism was about as heavy as a lead school bus, but it's an American war movie what else to expect.
The fight scenes themselves weren't as good as I was hoping but they weren't abysmal.

The things I did like:

-We figured out that it wasn't an invasion quickly and the military was quick to deploy.
-The dissection.

Otherwise Canada was still untouched. I'm starting to wonder if we've signed some sort of non-aggression pact with every alien lifeform.

I went in with full knowledge of what I was doing.
My friend invited me, and we went. We laughed and were dumbstruck.
Though in the theatre there was a kind of camaraderie of all of us watching the film. Whenever someone would exclaim at the screen no one was phased in fact most people added to the exclamation.

Horrible movie though.

Now seeing as how I have no cable and I have horrible reception there is nothing television related I can add to this thread.

Just watched 3 episodes of a british made detective show set in Italy called "Zen" which was quite entertaining. Kinda like how the BBC did an english language remake of Wallander, and kept the setting in Sweden, it's nice to see them use an overseas location to add a bit of flavour to the stories.

Anyway, "Zen" is the surname of the principal detective played by Rufus Sewell and he's a cop who is something of an outsider because of his rep for being a straight arrow. No matter what way I try and break down the set-up it will sound like yet another cliched cop show. But it is a worthwhile watch I felt due to the very different style both in terms of setting and the soundtrack.

The soundtrack/score is something that I can't quite figure whether i liked or not. Initially i found it quite distracting as it reminded me of a comedy sketch Bill Bailey did (in his video,Bill bailey's remarkable guide to the Orchestra). But in the subsequent episodes i didn't mind it as much. I'd be curious as to what other people made of it.


On a completely different note, I saw the pilot episode of a new Scf-Fi channel show called, "Alphas", and despite despite looking pretty, i felt it was trying way too hard and didn't enjoy it at all. It's yet another mutant powers thing, with a group of misfits (working for a shadowy group) trying to track down bad guys (who may also be working for a shadowy group). It will be lucky to last beyond a season i'd say.

And having watched this not long after seeing "Zen", the generic look and feel of the locations only jumped out even more. I like how more american shows have chosen to actively use a specific location for a show and use that in the story rather than try to have a generic big city location. Shows like DEXTER, JUSTIFIED and BURN NOTICE spring immediately to mind.

The only redeeming feature it has is the Bruce Campbell factor.

Burn Notice is a great show. The overarching story is your typical 'secret cabal of shadowy figures ruling the world' garbage, admittedly, and some of the individual cases aren't that great, but I still enjoy it immensely. Although I don't understand why people think Fiona is so hot. Something about how angular her face is just puts me off.

I was wondering about htis - i have the pilot but am ambivalent about watching. Seems like someone just took bits and pieces of HEROS and NO ORDINARY FAMILY and stirred with an old issue of x-men.

I tried - i gave it two eps - but as with most spy crap on tv, i found it unoriginal and trite and not helped by its inclusion of virtually every TMN actor who wasn't doing another show that week just phoning it in.



Re-watched most of GAME OF THRONES. That show holds up amazingly well on a second (third... ummm... fourth... ok i have a problem, leave me the fuck alone....) watch.

Watched the first episode of the new season of TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY....and aside from a few pacing, plot points and piss poor acting on Mekhi Phifer's part...it was pretty good, and I look forward to the rest of the season. With Doctor Who currently peeing on my shoe with a really lackluster season I needed some RTD to help pick it up.

If anyone hasn't seen MRS. BROWN'S BOYS (BBC show about a family in Finglas, Dublin Ireland) based on the stage shows then you are missing out on some of the BEST comedy on British TV. You can find the whole first season (6 episodes) to watch. It did well enough to be signed on for a second season. I've seen two stage shows of it and nearly peed my pants laughing...and the TV show is totally up to par with the stage show, so prepare to be in for a treat.

I've been catching up with HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (I had only ever watched season 1-2) with my gf's DVD sets...but man this show, whilst funny, gets tedious. The slap jokes continue on, and there is less Barney-centric episodes...and lets face facts NPH MAKES that show funny, so less of him is a bad idea. I dunno, going through the motions now, laughing now and again but mostly it's like watching latter seasons of the Simpsons...I'm watching for watching's sake.

Decided to wait for the DVD set to watch FRINGE Season 3, that way I can catch up right before the 4th season debuts.

Also watching LOST all the way through for the 3rd time with gf's sister who hasn't seen it. Enjoying it as much as I always did.

Also on season 3 of SUPERNATURAL...while pretty good I know I've not yet reached the really messed up stuff and right now it's still just doing standalone eps mostly and it needs to move onto more about the larger arc to keep me interested. Good, not yet great though.

Alpha's was ok. Hopefully it gets better or it is going to crash and burn.

Eureka and Warehouse 13 were back, and I immensely enjoy both of those shows.
