On a completely different note, I saw the pilot episode of a new Scf-Fi channel show called, "Alphas", and despite despite looking pretty, i felt it was trying way too hard and didn't enjoy it at all. It's yet another mutant powers thing, with a group of misfits (working for a shadowy group) trying to track down bad guys (who may also be working for a shadowy group). It will be lucky to last beyond a season i'd say.

I was wondering about htis - i have the pilot but am ambivalent about watching. Seems like someone just took bits and pieces of HEROS and NO ORDINARY FAMILY and stirred with an old issue of x-men.

Alpha's was ok. Hopefully it gets better or it is going to crash and burn.

I saw the first ep of ALPHAS also. Only reason I tuned in was because David Straitharn was in it (how the hell did they get him?). And yeah, it really seems like a HEROES re-tread, only with a smaller budget and worse writers. I'll give it another ep, cuz it's summer and I'm magnanimous like that, but I'm expecting this to flop.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

It being a SyFy show, viewer digits expectations are lowered along with budget, so it may survive (see also Falling Skies).

If anyone hasn't seen MRS. BROWN'S BOYS (BBC show about a family in Finglas, Dublin Ireland) based on the stage shows then you are missing out on some of the BEST comedy on British TV. You can find the whole first season (6 episodes) to watch. It did well enough to be signed on for a second season. I've seen two stage shows of it and nearly peed my pants laughing...and the TV show is totally up to par with the stage show, so prepare to be in for a treat.

I watched that with my mum! I loved when they got some of the stage directions wrong and they'd make a reference to it on the show. Was a good laugh.

Totally hilarious from start to finish. Love it, can't wait for season 2!

The second ep was a complete rip-off of a FRINGE episode (the one with the guy who can drop a pen and cause a massive traffic accident thru Rube Goldberg chains of causality only he can see) mashed up with general HEROES and NO ORDINARY FAMILY retreads. The execution isn't horrible (though there's some eye-rolling backstory stuff like the South Asian woman with overbearing parents), but like the first eps of FALLING SKIES there's just not a lot as to why anybody should tune into this.

I've got the first ep of HAVEN (another Syfy joint) on my DVR, but haven't watched it yet...anybody seen this? Whaddaya think?

I saw about 3 of the first 6 eps, but stopped watching cos it just seemed so cheap a production. Also it was in serious danger from the cancellation bear at the time, and i didn't want to watch another series implying a long story that gets cut off early.

However, it managed to avoid being cancelled, and season 2 has just begun. So maybe they will get to tell a long story.

As for the premise of the show itself, it is apparently loosely based on Stephen King's "the Colorado Kid", and deals with an (FBI?) agent who goes to a small town and starts to investigate a number of strange occurrences. There is also the implication that some people in the town know more about her mysterious past.
Unfortunately, the show itself just felt like another retread of SyFy's familiar shows like Eureka (weekly problem caused by crazy advanced technology) or Warehouse 13 (weekly problem caused by mysterious "artifacts").

Hopefully there is someone else here who has watched more of the recent eps and can say whether the quality ever improved.

This past spring, I DVR'd the first 20 eps of THE TUDORS from BBC America.

We've now watched 4 or 5 eps. Really liking it so far. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers doesn't quite fit my mental image of Henry VIII, but he's good enough in the role.

I finally got round to watching the last few episodes of 24. Daft as hell, right to the end. I ended up being quite sorry that it's finished.

Currently catching up on DOLLHOUSE. Am really liking it, actually, not least because the really hot actor who played Helo in BSG is a main character <_<
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

I hate that ass. LOL

He was at Comic Con in Toronto last year and his signing table was next to Amy Okuda from THE GUILD and he was shamelessly hitting on her while I was in line to get Felicia Day's autograph and being really skeevy about it, asking her to come afterward to his hotel room for a drink ect.....and she was trying to be nice to him, but in the end her handler actually had to shoo him off her.

He's a total douche.

*fingers in ears* la la la la la! I can't hear you!

TBH, I don't care what he's like in RL.

It's good that you can disconnect the two. I can't sadly. I wish I could.

It's also why I can't take Ernie Hudson seriously (Ghostbuster) because he hit on my friend Julie by trying to get her back to his trailer with him on the set of DRAGONBALL (she shot the behind the scenes featurette for the DVD) by saying "Come on baby, who you gonna call?"

LOL

Hating on c-list celebrities for trying to get some play off their c-list fame is like hating on Bruce Lee for using nunchucks.

...assuming Bruce Lee sort of sucked at using nunchucks and the nunchucks in question were actually Nerf-chucks.
