I DVR'd all of the new V series this past season and am now halfway through them.

It doesn't suck as bad as I thought it would. You do have to look around a giant, massive, gaping, alien-fleet-swallowing hole in the premise to enjoy it though:

Spoiler

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

This past week I started watching the first season of "The Wire". It's been on my to-see-list for quite some time and I must say all the hype was well deserved. Probably one of the best shows I've seen, in particular the scene where everything they say is some form of "fuck"... genius!
And so the First denied their Mother,
in their fury, and so were cast out,
doomed children of Mother Dark.

@ Anomander
Season 1 of The Wire is really good, especially when you get used to the way it's shot, and in particular, the accents.
Season 2 is good too, but has a very different feel to it (since it focuses in the port of Baltimore, and not that heavily on the characters you already know).
Season 3 is really good, with some very interesting developments (as they look at how politics gets involved in the drug war).
Season 4, is about the schools and is awesome. One of the best seasons of tv ever i would think. Great writing, very good child actors, and some tough storylines. And starts to really tie all the previous storylines together, and show how the problems are so ingrained and cyclical.
Season 5 is probably the weakest of the lot, focusing on how the press fit into the whole mess. Not as compelling as the other seasons, but it does provide a fitting conclusion.

Enjoy the lot. If you've enjoyed so far, you're in for a treat.

I remember that I had literally no idea what was going on for half of the first season, so it took me a long time to finish that one. Eventually did though, and I fell in love with it. Personally I liked season 2 just as much as the first, as I liked Nick and Frank more than Bodie and D and all those barring Stringer, although Ziggy annoyed the shit out of me. I'm still searching around for season 4, haven't gotten around to picking it up yet. General consensus seems to be I'm missing out something severe.

Haha the chicken dances are some of the funniest parts of that show.

Chicken Dance (doesn't feature Gob's one at the end for some weird reason)

Due to a younger brother who goes "off-grid" rather often, I frequently employ the "I must find this 'hermano'" line. Complete with inflections. Love that show.

Mad Men is goooooooood.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I liked it for season 1 if only for the constant and hilarious 1950isms like rampant sexism in the workplace and drunk driving.

Then it got slow and boooooooooooooooring. Too little happens in an episode to keep me interested.

But I can see why folks dig it. Comparable to desperate housewives more or less. Decent writing and acting, just not my bag so much

I just started a rewatch of the entire SG1 compendium. Seasons 1 and 2 are so cheesy.

Aha how awesome is it!

I borrowed the first four seasons of The Sopranos from a friend yesterday. How have I never watched this before?

Yeah, I've yet to experience the sopranos in its entirety.

Everybody jizzes all over that series all the time. I've seen a few scattered and extremely violent episodes here and there, but nothing approaching a cohesive chunk of the series where all the little nuances and serial bits made sense.

The wife and I were talking about getting into a new series and she's never seen sopranos either. Probably a good choice eh? No way I'm getting her into SG1...no freakin way.

Sanctuary is moderately diverting, with some interesting characters and ideas, but some god-awful accents (Amanda Tapping's English accent is horrible at times) and your usual cheap sci-fi channel special effects.

Warehouse 13 is like a more supernatural twin to EUREKA, and in fact there is supposed to be a crossover episode (or two) in the works. It is a lot more tongue in cheek than Sanctuary, and the long story arc in season one was ok. Warehouse 13 kinda reminded me of The Lost Room is some ways as well.

Neither show is must-see-TV but will probably do the job of passing the time adequately. Can't really recommend them any more than that unfortunately.

Jack O'Neil is the best scifi character ever.

I forgot how awesome all of his lines are in SG1. It's rad how he delivers them too...so they all seem improvised. Everybody else has somewhat cardboard lines, like Hammond, Sam and Daniel, but somehow O'Niel pulls off his with more style.

He's certainly high on my favorite list along with Teal'c.

Some favorite quotes and scenes

O'Neil: "You have got to be kidding me for crying out loud" (I tend to use this line alot when something seems very messed up)

I remember a scene where SG1 is making first contact with a new world and just before they enter the world by Stargate, some scientists of the new world are talking about how they expect that the people from earth will be.
"I think that they are very advanced, highly intelligent and very sophisticated (or something like that) Stargate starts dialing in, people very excited. Wormhole establishes and SG1 steps out in their camouflage uniforms.
O'Neil with shades on saying very cheery "Hiya folks" (I guess the people over there didn't expect this :) )

Teal'c with Daniel Jackson.

Daniel: I have noticed that you say indeed alot.
Teal'c : Really?
Daniel: Yes
Teal'c: Indeed

During the episode when Apophis is flying to Earth with two of his ships.

Master Bra'tak: We'll cross that bridge when we'll get that far
O'Neil: Bra'tak, it's ..... oh nevermind

Master Bra'tak: The shield generator is down there, we have to climb all the way down and destroy the generator with a staff weapon.
O'Neil takes two grenates, pulls the pins and drops them down.
Done
Sappers have a saying, he muttered. "Wide eyed stupid"

Exactly...all of those.

Perfect examples. Especially the last one.
