Peter Griffin is a fat and stupid pig.
A hilarious one.
Family Guy is like It's Always Funny in Philadelphia, as in it is a given that the people are horrible (mostly Peter).
Also, watch Community.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. The Paintball episode prompted me to post earlier in this thread "5 minutes in and this Community episode is already legendary" or something like that.

NIKITA. Just saw the premiere. I have an abiding fondness for the original movie and the Peta Wilson series, but even so this wasn't bad. And prior to this i never actually believed Maggie Q could act. Nice twist at the end.

To be honest, Maggie Q's acting ability is not on the top of my list of priorities when i'm watching her.......
She's perdy and would make a perfect Sorry/ Apsalar

Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.

Nah. She's too 'adult' to play a seventeen year old hormonally crazed teenage assassin.
But she does do a damn good action scene which is more or less what i'm watching the series for. It's got a very ALIAS vibe, referring to seasons 1 and 2 which rocked as opposed to seasons 3 and 4 which never happened.
There are a few spy shows this season and i'm curious whether this and UNDERCOVERS survives the season.
Also keeping an eye open for NO ORDINARY FAMILY, which could be HEROES-good or HEROES-bad, depending on how they approach it.

Just ploughed my way through first season of True Blood. Basically what have you is a better version of Twilight, where a vampire takes a liking to the "cute" girl, and this other fellow, who's been sweet on the "cute" girl for ever, takes objections to it. Throw in some suspicious murders and a retarded brother, and there you have it. Also, somehow most of the characters that matters manages to become more one-dimensional the further you get into the season. Terra start out as a really interesting girl, but ends up a whining bitch. Sookie makes pretences for autonomy and intelligence to begin with, but ends up as the stupid, helpless blonde. And...
In other words, are there any reasons to continue watching this show?

Yes, but that would involve spoiling. A few of the things that bug you are corrected and a few of the things you like are further developed. You'll know in the first ep or two whether you want to stay on for the whole S2.

Your spoiler is completely wrong.
But yes, the show is very enjoyable if you keep watching and forgive the Tara one-dimensional thing. Jason Stackhouse makes me laugh so hard - especially his speech to Andy Bellefleur at the end of the second season. I thought Sookie, as a character, went in a different direction than you did. To me, she's transitioned into being a bit too wise for her age/situation, but overall, the show's rather good.

I enjoy True Blood all in all, but Sookie annoys the shit out of me. Of all the characters show, she's by far the most unlikely to my mind.

Quite a few of them annoy me at times. I think they are all asshats from time to time, with Sookie being very much a Mary Sue in hiding (at least show wise).
Tara annoys me the most, but they also have some pretty good moments for all of them so far. Few and far in between, but they occur.

The thing is that Tara's behaviour is believable and consistent I think. Sookie on the other hand just reacts to completely nonsensical things. Why is it that American shows so often mistake being a bitch and being a strong character?
Or as Sarah says, the only way for them to make the plot work is to make her really dumb.

Understandable. I find Tara the most annoying because her story lines are just Debbie Downer. She has a right to be miserable, but it isn't fun to watch.
Sookie's role is to get naked, have all the men want her, and do dumb shit, definitely. But how does that make her a bitch?

Recently got my hands on the first season of The Wire, and l know a lot of people love it but after five episodes l just couldn't watch it any more. It had some good, well done parts (McNulty and Buck's investigating of a old crime scene was classic) but it just didn't keep my interest. I think that The Shield is a better cop drama, if very unrealistic.

You NEED to keep going. It is, in my opinion, the finest audiovisual entertainment ever made. Flawed at times, but so, so transcendent at so many other moments that it's honestly a cultural landmark on the scale of Moby Dick, Roots, The Odyssey or the best of Dickens's work.

I had to watch it for a class last semester, and the teacher was raving about it. How it was the TV equivalent of War and Peace, and that it's structure was totally unique and bla bla bla. This might be true, but that doesn't help when the show's so goddam boring... The Shield is much better, I agree.
