So, I never could get on board with The Big Bang Theory. I could never suffer through how much the 'geek/nerd', ' hey look at us, we're a smart show for the nerds out there' humor was forced, disingenuous and just outright pretentious. But I'm going to watch the series finale tomorrow night to see how they send them off, because hey, they've been doing it for 12 seasons now.

Any you gullible nerdphiles going to give the series finale a go too? And let it shove its pictures into your seeing orbs to be processed by your thinky meats?

Did you think she was odd looking in White Princess?

Totally. In fact, I'd forgotten she was in it...but yes, I think it's the elfin bone structure combined with the wide spaced eyes. Which I realize is a superficial thing to complain about, but yeah...Add in the fake Russo-French accent said by a Liverpudlian, and it's just a clusterfuck.

So far my fave character is Kirby Howell-Baptiste's Elena...but she's not in it much.

That said, I heard that Nina Sosanya (who I loved in W1A) is in S2, so that's a plus and Waller-Bridge (whose writing I either like or hate depending on the scene) left the show running spot for the woman who ran CALL THE MIDWIFE (which is a great show)...so we will see where things go.

Jesus gods no...I would have so much trouble managing her as Galadriel.

CHERNOBYL Episode 2 was excellent. Again hard to watch, but it had Jared Harris and Stellan Skarsgard chewing scenery together for the majority of it, which is always cool. Add in Emily Watson (whose character is a composite and not a real single person), and you've got a trifecta of great actors doing great scenes.

It's also interesting to see Shcherbina (Skarsgard) kind of going along with Yeltsin in this...because later on he fully opposes Yeltsin's push to become president. This episode features that bit from the trailer that I liked where Legasov (Harris) uses the "bullets firing" metaphor to describe what the Reactor 4 core being open means:

"Every atom of Uranium is like a bullet, penetrating everything in its path...metal, concrete, flesh. Now, Chernobyl holds over 3 trillion of these bullets, some of them will not stop firing for 100 years, and some of them will not even stop firing for another 50,000 years,"

And a pin could drop in that room of political men who are beginning to realize what's actually going on and now bad it is. There is also a really telling moment when Legasov and Schcerbina are standing what looks to be maybe 6 or 7 miles from the site as they are watching the attempts to smother the core with Boron and Sand (which coincidentally helped to create the fabled medusa-like 'Elephants Foot' by melting the sand into a type of radioactive lava) and Legasov lets slip that even with the distance they are away, both will probably be dead in 5 years and Schcerbina looks to Legasov in absolute horror...and the scary bit is that this was in Apr. of 1986, and Schcerbina died in 1990 (can't find what he died of, but I would HIGHLY suspect some sort of health problem related to how close he was to the open core (not just in that scene, but early in the helicopter before it turned back).

This show is no joke, and isn't shying away from the amount of things the USSR covered up and tried to hide from the world...but reading about this more in depth last night made me realize how badly this fucked up the continent it occurred on.

Visually, looks pretty good, all in all. The dialogue is a little clunky though (at least out of context), particularly that freedom line. Cautiously optimistic, but uhh are we sure the BBC isn't gonna neuter it the same way the movie did? Like, did somebody get their word, in writing, that they won't? Just checking.

I'm watching Killing Eve. 3 episodes in. So far I'm not particularly enamoured. I like it when ever assassin lady is doing her weird sociopath thing and analysing other people's behavior but otherwise the show is meh.

Disappointed they're wasting Kim Bodnia as well. He can be waaaay more intense than what they're doing with him here.

Watched 'series' 1 of Fleabag. Only six episodes at about 30 min. running time (with commercials), so it was a quick binge watch, which was nice.

I was often times uncomfortable, but mostly that was accompanied by much laughter. I see 'series' 2 finished last month. Any one give this series a go? I'm guessing it picks up where 'series' 1 left off?

We finished S1 last night...my wife MAY check out S2, but I'm out. The show does seem to JUST be about Villanelle/Oksana and Eve's weird obsession with each other...and I simply don't care. There is not enough info about the people pulling the strings (The Twelve)...so I don't see how I can care.

Have like 8 shows set to record tonight and only so much room left on dvr. Something must go.

14 The Gifted, 16 Walking Dead, 8 Knightfall

The Gifted is cancelled. I'd get rid of that.

Amazon Prime is set to launch the TV series of Good Omens (Pratchett/Gaiman) on the 31st of May.

I remember attending a book signing with Neil Gaiman in the Netherlands back around '97/'98-ish, where one of the most frequently asked questions was about Good Omens and when we would see a film or TV series. I seem to recall that Gaiman said that there had been numerous attempts but nothing ever solidified and he was doubtful that it would ever really happen. It only took 20+ years from that point... I have looked forward to this for so long, I cannot wait. Amazing cast as well, by the looks of it.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

All 7 seasons of XENA were of sale for $20 on iTunes. I snatched that up quick. One of my fave shows from my teenage years. 134 eps for a $20? AMAZING deal.

Catch-22… give it a watch, better than I thought it was going to be.

I haven’t read the books though so not sure how it compares to it but a TV recommend.

I'm curious whether you find that it aged well or was better left to fond nostalgia.

I was old enough at the time to get how hokey a lot of the fights were, bloodless and all...and the first maybe 1.5 seasons it's kind of half great and half bad, but there really is some great storytelling in those 7 seasons and I maintain that most everything after the mid-S2 episode (ep 12 I think?) where we find out Xena and Julius Caesar (Karl Urban in his second role on the show; he also played Cupid) were a thing and he had her crucified...it becomes much more a lore/arc based show and less "monster of the week"...plus Ted Raimi!

I decided to skip S1 entirely in my re-wtach (as it's mostly bad "monster of the week" stuff and very little arc), and started with S2 Ep1 which is where we begin to get into Xena revisiting and atoning for her past...as an episode it had hokey bits, but the overall story held up okay.

It's very much like ST: TNG in that respect....takes 3 seasons to properly get going, but once it does, it's pretty enjoyable all around.

I'm interested in Catch-22...the book is great (didn't read the sequel). If you like the Kindly/Pores stuff from Malazan, but also want a good, occasionally scathing WWII-set military satire: 1- you have very specific taste & 2- this is the book for you!

I just don't have the patience to read Catch-1 through Catch-21.
