So, not only did Season 3 of The Detectorists not make it to US Netflix, seasons 1, 2 are gone also.

Bollocks.

Aw hell!

I've got them all on DVD if you guys want to pop round and watch with me.

I heard that Netflix is getting in debt.

They are seemingly doing it on purpose, they are borrowing money (well within what they can seemingly afford so far) to increase the liquidity in order to be able to make lots of original content and to be able to buy the rights to everything they can. Everyone wants to copy their formula, Disney for example and Netflix is trying to lock in as many subscribers as it can today and at a price point others cant compete at in order to ensure market share dominance.

They need to have a loyal base before Disney splits off and takes star wars and marvel, DC is making their own thing too etc and will take their cartoons and titans etc. They need to ramp up their ability to provide their own content before they get hung high and dty.

That kind of loss-leading seems fairly standard in this kind of industry. Risky business and could be seen as unethical but whether investors see them as safe or not is more important at this stage for them than the money actually rolling in. It was years before Amazon started turning an actual profit for example.

My completely amateur analysis suggests the Disney move might have come at a bad time because they already had to do the loss-lead thing to kill video and then fight off Amazon so they might have been preparing to ease off and go profitable by now but at the same time they're already almost as ingrained in the consciousness as google or youtube and even if Disney and the cable companies create viable alternatives it seems hard to see Netflix getting Myspace'd, and I haven't seen anyone freaking out about it yet really, especially since Netflix are worldwide whereas the cable companies wouldn't be. And Disney have to be careful of being drawn into battles on too many fronts.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Crap! I just found out Planet Earth: Dynasties aired over the weekend and I missed it! I guess it was about lions and included a lot a harrowing situations in the struggle for turf between lions and hyenas and such. I'm totally bummed I missed it. I'm sure it will be in heavy rerun rotation and I'll be able to see it eventually. Will definitely be looking forward for the next new episode featuring chimpanzees. Anyone watch? Worth it? yes? no? meh?

Episode 2 of Passage was last night. They are doing a good job of delivering back story and advancing the plot. I'm digging the show.

I have just signed up for Netflix. Holy hell there's a shitload of stuff I have to catch up with - where should I start?!

I thought Stranger Things, as most people seem to recommend it and have seen it. Altered Carbon? The Crown? The Punisher? On the plus side, leaving it so long means I now have about a years worth of different series to watch.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Stranger Things and Altered Carbon are good.

You might want to watch Dare Devil Seasons 1 & 2 to see the introduction of the Punisher. Punisher 1 is fun. I'm 1/2 way through Punisher season 2 and its dragging a little.

Stranger Things is brilliant. The Crown is also pretty strong. Daredevil and Jessica Jones are my picks of the Marvel series on there (I haven't watched Punisher yet). Also I liked Star Trek Discovery, which is also on there.

Oh, I didn't know Disco was on Netflix international (we get it on Space channel in Canada), but yes, I endorse that recco too.

You needs the S1 basics of the concept to appreciate the intricacy of her integration into the Paw program.

Also, fuck Tracker.

It is up here...as are the Wiggles. The Wiggles and Splash & Boots are on a loop in my house. My daughter is OBSESSED.

I'm going to go against everyone else here and say don't bother with any of the Marvel shows. There are some good bits but inevitably they get boring and drag massively. On the whole they get rid of the cool bad guys when they have them and make all the good guys turn mopey. It's not with starting IMO.

Tbh I'm not all that into Marvel.

Stranger Things though - first ep. So much E.T/Goonies in there... the lighting, the d+d, the outbuildings, the bikes.. goodbye the pizza. Good stuff so far.
