Re: ROMAN EMPIRE: REIGN OF BLOOD.
I wonder why they chose to do the Commodus/Marcus Aurelius story first season, and then jump back in time to do Julius Caesar second season? At a guess, is it possible they wanted to "Sell" the show to audiences out of the gate, so chose the latter story to do first so most people would have an inkling about it because the Marcus Aurelius / Commodus story is the one from GLADIATOR (no mater how torn to shreds it is there in favour of poetic license). Speaking of which, it's interesting to get the real story here, including REALLY important characters entirely absent from the movie (like Empress Faustina, Cassius Dio, Bruttia Crispina, Cleander, Saortorus), and to see Commodus as he actually was (and minus all the weird affectations from the movie, like killing his father to be Emperor, incestuously fawning after his own sister, ect.) and see that Marcus Aurelius was hell bent on making his son the Emperor, and Commodus was not ready, nor all that willing to "rule".
Oh, and sidebar: The actress who plays Lucilla...Tai Berdinner Blades...good goods almighty...I MAY have a small crush.
I LOVE the concept of this show to be honest. The production value, music, cast and sets of an actual fictional historical show, but also with documentarian talking head interviews with historians to fill in gaps, or help to explain the more complex issues at work in the story. It works in SPADES as far as I'm concerned. I'm nearly done Season 1, and will roll right into Season 2 when done. I know season 2 just dropped, but I hope they announce more seasons and cover a bunch of different Imperial reigns!
Anyone here who loves Ancient Rome...watch this.
