Oh look, DC has decided to utterly shit on one of my fave DC properties, and destroy the characters. I'm usually a defender of DC's "attempts" to be different...but this is beyond the pale.

Wasn't everyone just waiting for a TV show about the teen titans where Robin shoots a bunch of criminals in an alley with a gun, audibly breaks one guys neck with his foot, and then, covered in blood says "Fuck Batman."?

That looks like All-Star Batman and Robin except with all the humour taken out of it.

eta: like, what the fuck are they thinking? There are several properties they could have gone for where a tone like that would have made sense. Do a Midnighter series where he shows up delivering that line, that could even have been funny. This shit though?

And I don't even care about Teen Titans.

And as much as I've defended Zack Snyder's movies in the DCEU to an extent, he's quite clearly poisoned the well now, and DC can't see past him.

The doubling down on the Grimdark...especially on the back of their CW tv shows (which for the most part are much lighter fare) being successes compared to the DCEU movies...like this decision makes ZERO sense.

What's weird is that the reaction to the grimdark fucking TOLD them that people can't take that shit seriously with certain characters and properties which is why they fucked Justice League up so bad. Have they decided that it was the swerve to Whedonism that did for that movie and decided to double back even more?

We're rumoured to be getting a Shazam teaser trailer this weekend too. Imagine if that's like this too?

eta: although the uploads of the EW comicon issue (which make it pretty definite there must be a trailer dropping and also that they must be a lot more confident in it than Aquaman if that's what they're choosing to ask magazines to highlight at this point) look like they've thankfully given that possibility a massive, massive swerve.

Overall it’s pretty strong. The back half of S4 is pretty awful and S5 alternates between brilliant and weak, but if you enjoyed Buffy or want to see some decent urban fantasy tv, it’s worth the eyetime.
