Now that sounds fun. With out having seen the film... show? It sounds like you could have an interesting discussion about just how racist Apu really is.

Decided I needed to get through Marvel's Iron Fist before The Defenders is released next month.

Watched the first episode. It was actually pretty okay, bit too reminiscent of Green Arrow, but hey, what are you gonna do? All these rich boy origin stories are the same.

I'm in the middle of the second episode and they completely lost me. They put him in a fucking mental institution. Not only is this one of the worst recurring storylines every single super/occult show implements but what is the point of this episode? It's undermining the power and mystery of the character.

Are we to believe that The Immortal Iron Fist, quite literally a walking weapon, a man who has mastered every aspect of his physical body, his mind and his soul, is incapable of sweating out a bunch of drugs and punching his way out of this loony bin? Come on the fuck.

My eternal gripe with these Netflix shows remain the same. They are stripping these superheroes of the super aspect. I like the notion of grounding the characters and trying a more realistic depiction of them but they're supposed to be more than just people. They're supposed to be able to walk into a room and kick everybody's ass.

Nothing about this portrayal sells the idea of a super-ninja-athlete. He doesn't react or move like a person who is a master of his domain. He's just some twenty something idiot out of his element.

Also, I still hate the casting of who ever this actor is for the role of Daniel Rand.

It gets worse Apt. Just warning you. The WTF-ery on display in IRON FIST is high.

Four episodes into Iron Fist. It's just not good at all.

I don't understand how writing this bad passes what ever kind of review manuscripts go through, before they're okayed for production. Even simple, elegant little changes to the dialogue could go so far. Maybe it's just a case of pandering to the lowest common denominator? So they intentionally make the characters dumb as fuck?

You also need to take into account Finn Jones complete inability to handle a lead acting role.

I guess I should get to Iron Fist before The Defenders drops too. I'm kinda dreading it now.

But I'm also in the same boat with Westworld. 5 eps in and this show is awwwwwwwful. Like, it's making me hate Anthony Hopkins, and I don't want to hate Anthony Hopkins.

I'm worse. I've seen DD s1... minus the large chunks I ffwdd which was basically everything that wasn't Matt punching people in the face. I did not love and it led to my present ennui to watch JJ, Cage and DD S2, to say nothing of Iron Fist.
I may end up watching DEFENDERS without bothering with everything else.

I saw you complaining about Westworld earlier. Personally I loved the show. Might be my favorite season of a show ever all though I am always cautious about making those kinds of proclamations.

What is it about it that it does wrong?

I loved the meta-discussion about what makes us human, what consciousness is. I also loved the characters and where the stories take them. The show does some pretty surprising and horrific things to its characters. It always had me wondering about what would happen next.

For what it is worth, I think DD S2 and Luke Cage can be skipped but Jessica Jones was good. Flawed, a frustrating bad guy, but Jessica Jones is a fascinating character.

You can't honestly say these shows are high quality? Bad writing is bad writing.

In other news I am watching episode 6 of Iron Fist now.

Can anyobody tell me if there's something absolutely necessary left in the season to appreciate The Defenders? It's painful watching through this stuff.

It's hard to know what link there is from the conclusion of Iron Fist to the way the Defenders plot plays out. There are a few twists and turns by the end of the season that might play out in Defenders so I'd say it's safest to finish it. It's tough going though because the lead actor is awful.

i've said it before and i'll say it again.

Finn Jones was god damn abysmal. Whoever cast him should be fired.

The finest martial artist in Marvel, and you cast someone who can't even throw a punch (and believe me, it's very obviously the case with him)

Gah.... years back after Iron Man first came out there was a (strong) rumour of an Iron Fist movie starring Ray Park.... If only.....
meh. Link was dead :(

It's truly strange that they would cast a person so green for a role as a martial artist super man.

Meanwhile I actually think these Meachum siblings are great. Less "corporate monsters" than I would like, but the actors can certainly act their asses off in the right moments, especially Ward Meachum.

I don't really have anything eloquent to say about Westworld. I don't like any of the characters; I've thought just about every line of dialogue has been genuinely awful -- particularly for Anthony Hopkins's character, but for everyone generally too; and I don't feel any suspense or even curiosity about what will happen next. I won't say nothing cool has happened in the actual park section of the story, but I'm not even into most of that. I will say Ed Harris & Clifton Collins have some good moments together. Hypothetically the themes of the show might interest me, but in this iteration I've been wholly turned off.

I do have a guess as to what the finale might bring:

I too have not seen Iron Fist but am steeling myself to watch it.

I liked DD, JJ, & especially LC but they all dragged at points.

12 episode in. 1 episode left. Horrific levels of bad writing. Just incredibly bad. This show almost makes Agents of SHIELD look good.

Considering that this entire season could have been a celebration of 70s kung-fu films and ninja stories, it just seems like a travesty. Absolutely no vision, no appreciation of the character or the lore.

One thing I do wonder about though.

I like that theory. That would be pretty cool to see.

Finished Iron Fist S1 this morning, because why not start out the day by ruining it?

It was terrible. I hope everybody in charge of making that show got fired.

The bizarre thing about the shows ending is that it makes Iron Fists role in The Defenders almost obscene.

Sidebar: Scott Buck, the show runner for IRON FIST....who I don't think has the skills at that job AT ALL...is the show runner now for THE INHUMANS tv show...and may be a big reason why THAT show looks like such a goddamn train wreck.

Basically, I think Buck needs to be kept away from TV.
