Just saw the pilot episode of some show called AGENT-X which is about a secret agent working for the vice president. It is so laughably bad. But sadly not actually in a humourous way. It has some high profile actors (Sharon Stone, James Early Jones) and the glossy look of some decent budget shows, but practically everything about it was plodding and dull. Made by TNT so maybe the ratings expectations are low, but this should be gone in a manner of weeks unless they do something crazy.

I have my easy to watch action shows like BLINDSPOT and THE BLACKLIST, and well done comic book stuff like FLASH and ARROW (less enthused about that these days), and AGENTS OF SHIELD has come a long way in terms of quality. Since I tend to watch a couple of episodes together, I could do with another show or two but not sure what else is worth following. Waiting for JESSICA JONES but that will probably be a binge watch so only a temporary fix.

Is there something obvious out there that I should be following? (allowing for the fact that I find zombies to be one of the most tedious things in film/tv history I will never be watching THE WALKING DEAD).

Person of Interest. Season 1 - you can look up a guide online as to which episodes to watch in this, because a lot of them are not good. Season 2 and onward - watch it all. So good.

Cheers Whisperzzzzzzz, I have been watching PERSON OF INTEREST since the start, though I kinda lost interest in the latest season, and still have to watch the last 5 or 6 eps. That's happened with a few other shows as well, so I can always fall back on those epsiodes if I'm stuck for something to watch (but I havent so far).

Latest episode of THE FLASH was top notch again. More reveals, and even more twists. Might be the best show out there at the moment for balancing the week to week episodes with the unfolding long story.

10 MINUTES!! 10 MINUTES??

That's all I could stand of episode 3 of supergirl.

NO! No, it's still fucking awful. I've made up my mind. I am done with this garbage. I bet I could find tweenie disney shows with hillary duff and that riana grand girl that's better than this piece of shit!
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

JONATHAN STRANGE & MR. NORELL finally showed up on Canadian iTunes, so I bought it and started into Ep2 (I'd already seen the pilot a while back streaming) and really am enjoying it a great deal.

I'm curious as to why the Supergirl show has caved so much since the premiere. I have seen only ten minutes of the second episode and thought it was pretty bad.

The director of the pilot did the second, according to IMDB. I've not researched the writers, but CBS has enough clout and money to get a strong room together.

The actors are generally pretty high powered.

What is going wrong over there?

Y'know, I have no idea. It could have been sooo good, yet, it is insultingly bad.

I'm thinking the problem might be something like they want a show like The Flash, only instead of nerdstuff they have dawson's creek (or some other crappy teenage show) Sure, they can't make it just like the Flash, that would leave them open for criticism on copying another show. But still...

The fact that the show is bombing in the ratings just tells me that even the target demographic doesn't like it.

I agree with QT, kill this show off as soon as possible and hopefully have Melissa Benoist moved over to a guest role on The Flash, or even Arrow. Heck, even Legends of Tomorrow could use a Supergirl (which would be awesome, because that would smell an awful lot like a Legion of Superheroes spinoff, yes?)

It's the same writing staff who work on ARROW and FLASH actually. And if you're careful in your viewing you can see that MOST of what makes it intolerable has to do with stuff that feels shoehorned in or forced.

I am beyond 100% convinced that this is the result of CBS meddling. There is really no other way to see it...with writers like Andrew Kriesberg delivering such SOLID Flash and Arrow outings...penning SG and having it fall flat...it just makes no sense...unless the studio is saying "Write this, put this in, make her more quirky, make sure she works for a newspaper" ect.

The action and effects and stuff for the most part is fine. The costume choice is still dumb as shit...hey Supergirl, what do you do when you get a run in your stockings?

But yeah, until shown otherwise, I'm pinning this on CBS entirely...and feeling sorry that Berlanti, Kriesberg and everyone else are being held under thumb.

That makes a ton of sense as these are indeed the Flash/Arrow writers and directors coming over to CBS to do this. There's no big change of format or story structure.

It's gotta be CBS execs making the terrible so vivid and so repeated.

Just started watching Vikings. Fairly decent so far, a couple of perplexing moments but i've heard it gets pretty good.

On the de-rebranding of Syfy: https://www.inverse....per-interesting

Pretty interesting how their timing was just so bad in terms of gauging the trajectory of the zeitgeist.

Just came across this new trailer for LEGENDS OF TOMORROW (which for those who don't know is a spinoff of both ARROW and THE FLASH). While the other trailer that's been out for a while was good, this one gives more of an idea of what the show will be like.

Looks good.

Anybody else watch/watched Castle?

The other half and I just finished watching Series 7. Given the way the series closed, why is there a Series 8? It felt like a very neat, pleasant ending. I hate it when shows try and squeeze another run out of what was a closed story. Is Series 8 worth a try?

Just watched the first 2 episodes (Season 3) of Bron/Broen, that's the original Danish/Swedish version of The Bridge. Thank you BBC4 for putting this on with subtitles over here. I find that the combo of the subtitles, with the good score, and slow building story really draws me in. I find myself skimming through a lot of other tv shows, but don't with this.

Love this show. Great cinematography, good stories with plenty of twists, and generally very good performances. I'm a huge fan of Sofia Helin as the lead character Saga Noren. Her whole performance seems so 'off' that it's great. Whereas I found the US version of The Bridge to be directly hampered by how poor Diane Kruger was as the lead detective with 'issues'.

Anyway, two more episodes were aired tonight, so that's some more quality tv for me to watch.

It's interesting comparing this to RIVER which I only watched yesterday. Both are slow paced detective stories, with their own style, but while I enjoyed RIVER, THE BRIDGE immediately felt so much more satisfying to me as a show (maybe that's down to the familiarity due to the previous seasons?). The quirk of detective River's personality seemed a lot more forced, than Saga's in 'The Bridge'.

Wondering how anyone else felt about these shows?

Are you talking about the US version? I think i only watched the first season of that, but if i did start the second season i definitely gave up on it. As I said above, I just hated Dian Kruger's performance. I knowe hate is a strong word, but i mean it in this instance. Maybe I'm alone in that, since i heard several critic praise her performance, which genuinely baffled me. Now I thought Damien Birchir was brilliant as the Mexican detective, as was her boss (whose name escapes me). Overall, I thought the show was disappointing, but that was because it was too slavish in it's adherence to the original swedish/danish plot, which meant there was no suspense if you had seen that before. The US/Mexico elements were generally fascinating, but the show felt kind of schizophrenic in trying to be really original and idiosyncratic while rigidly sticking to one storyline from the original. A real missed opportunity. But maybe that's just cos i saw it in the order of Swedish/Danish first -> US version. Perhaps if i saw the US version first I'd think that was superior, but i doubt it.

That looks like it could go either way. Like it might be a little too in love with its own gimmick, or it might settle into something actually fun to watch if it gets over itself.

Anyone else following this final season of Peep Show? That last ep was a doozy!

They leaked the pilot episode for this show months ago, and it's a pretty decent effort overall. While the lead actor is generally very good, he does ham it up a bit too much for my taste which i am blaming on the director. Especially since he can be really good when he's playing the character serious or angry. The banter between the two leads is generally good too, and with decent writing and some time to settle into the roles, they could be great.

It all really depends on what they want to do with this. If there is a clear long story in mind, then this has the potential to be really enjoyable. I have a nagging suspicion that they'll botch the job though and we'll end up with a badly scripted comedy version of Supernatural.

My wife and I saw S1 and 2 of the US version of The Bridge and then got S1 of the Danish version on disc from Netflix. We very much enjoyed the first season of the US version. I think Binder is probably right about people tending to prefer the version they see first, although I wouldn't say we preferred the US version over the Danish at all. I thought Diane Kruger's performance was good, actually. I think overall, though, Sofia Helin does a superior job with the role. I agree completely that Damien Birchir was fantastic as the Mexican detective in the US version. S2 of the US Bridge really went off the rails and could not live up to it's first season, no matter how big and bloody they made it (and they went quite big and bloody!). The only decent thing about S2 was the female money-handling villain they introduced; she was pretty chilling. S2 of the Danish version wasn't available back when we watched S1 but I would definitely like to see it.

Since I'm reading this Wallace Breem Roman book I keep thinking...wouldn't it be great to get an episodic TV show about the late Roman empire? Like all the events that lead to its eventual fall? The slow, lingering retreat from Britain, the forces in Rome staving of the Goths, Vandals, Aleman...ect. Honorious trying to control from Ravenna, and Stilicho in northern Italy...

Just seems like a great idea for a period show in a Roman era we don't see a lot of.

The Wiz update is really good so far. I'm a little over halfway through and breaking to cook dinner now.

Going into it, I was wishing they'd found a role for Janelle Monae, but everybody has been great. Superb production and peoples can sing.
