And in the colour-me-unsurprised category the sharks are apparently circling TERRA NOVA and it will likely not get renewed.

http://www.dailymail...Terra-Nova.html

I think Abyss was right, that show (with its budget) needed to blast out of the gate and it's just kind of been limping along. The problem being that there just wasn't enough to make people keep coming back each week.

Yah i just watched the 'how do you use a dinosaur as a murder weapon' ep and, well... boring. In theory a show that includes a high speed pursuit of a genericraptor with jeeps and motorcycles, to collect evidence in a murder case, should be awesome... and yet it just came across as silly, especially when they decide it was a brilliant plan to chase the thing into a dense forest where it can effectively hide, climb trees, and try to eat them. I have huge respect for tv scriptwriters, but which idiot thought that was clever? Plus the sheer stupidity of showing the dino running, with a motorcycle right there behind it, followed by a lot of 'we don't have a visual!!!' yelling.

I want this show to get better and succeed but it's turning into another THE EVENT where i'm just watching the proverbial train-wreck in progress.

ONCE UPON A TIME is holding my interest. The ep where Snow and Price Snoring met wasn't bad, and Cinderella ep, while trite, was saved by a great performance from the guy playing Rumplestiltsgold. He positively chews scenery on screen.

GRIMM... the bee-hive creatures ep was okay and added a bit to the bigger picture, but it wasn't where this show needs to be. I appreciate that they're sticking to standalones to draw in and hold an audience, but 'police procedural with fantasy elements slotted in' isn't going to cut it if they don't raise their game a bit. The monsters need to be freakier, the stakes need to be higher... we don't need Law & Order & Werewolves. We need CSI: Supernatural.

X-FACTOR... last week i ffwd'd about 50% of both eps. And not just the chatter and useless marketing for pepsi and Adam Sandler's latest failure, but some genuinely atrocious performaces... ffs, i know they got caught lipsynching but please, for the love of god if the live performances are going to be THAT bad, lipsynch! CGI their lips if you must!!! I am, however, experiencing self-hate over how much i enjoy Astro... an eleven year old brat Jay Z wannabe should not be this entertaining. I also think Paula Abdul is going to self harm shortly when all of her groups are turfed.

FRINGE - still awesome.

Oh and I finally got to watch an episode of 2 BROKE GIRLS...and I'm afraid I don't see the funny. Kat Dennings (who to me is the best curvy eye candy ever, love her) had a few chuckle-worthy one liners, but otherwise I was very MEH about the whole show. It's certainly not MODERN FAMILY quality humour, which I howl my ass off at weekly. I am, however, willing to buy into the fact that I may have just seen a tepid episode and the show is better than that one. I will defo keep watching, since it is the No. 1 TV show according to ratings.

And yeah Abyss, Robert Carlyle ALWAYS chews scenery, he absolutely was casting gold when it comes to ONCE UPON A TIME. The show continues to impress me as every time I feel they are getting too saccharine or too straight up fairytale for me, they do something twisty, or unexpected:

Spoiler

It is still easily my new favourite show on the box, and I look forward to it every week.

REVENGE has been decent as well, throwing me for a few loops I wasn't expecting, but like I mentioned earlier, I await to see what they do and how they will continue once the Count Of Monte Cristo storyline ends...and I hope it doesn't just turn into Generic-Hamptons-Drama.

Too bad really. Great budget, decent cast, the potential was there. Just no worthwhile story. They tried so hard to put something in there for everyone, they really didn't put anything in there for anyone.

My favorite new show too. I am shocked how much I am liking it.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I have watched the first episode of 2 Broke Girls and I have to concur. To be honest, I didn't even watch the episode completely, after 15 minutes I just shut it down.

It just didn't get me.

Will see to get an ep of Once Upon a Time, judging on the reactions here, it might be something that I really would enjoy.

Homeland is also on my still to watch list, but lately I don't even get to much reading, let alone watching something that I really would enjoy do to a new member of the family.

Yah likewise enjoying it way more than I expected to. It's a surprisingly effective 'fairy-tale' approach to a weekly tv show. And that spoilered moment was awesome, reminding us that while we know the source stories, they are far from bound by them.

Yep.
It's trying to be LOST and BSG and SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON with a dose of STAR TREK sf and buddy cop drama, all at once. With dinosaurs.

Unfortunate.

I like Grimm. It's a bit uneven thus far (jagerbaer episode), but it has serious potential to find legs and go somewhere excellent.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

You'll be glad to know it is NBC's best performing show apparently, and it's gone to full season order I believe.

I'm watching GRIMM so this isn't a naysay, but that's not really high praise considering the dismal season NBC is having. Again.

That said i suspect it's fairly low cost so the mid level ratings might be enough.

You're doing one better than me, I'm not even watching, I gave it the one episode. LOL I think I'm O.D'ed on police procedural's of any kind because there are so many of them on TV>

I like quite a few of NBC's shows - Community, Parks & Rec, Grimm, 30 Rock - but the problem is that they're always on when I have BJJ - 7 to 9something pm. And I don't have a DVR. I actively hunt down four shows these days - Community, One Piece, the Japanese cartoon, Once Upon A Time, and now Grimm.

Maybe I should look into hooking up my desktop to the tv and recording them there. My brother has a ton of Tom & Jerry he got through that method somehow...

I also speculate that NBC is getting outbid for the Chuck Lorre style mid-level shows that Middle American loves so much. They do have lots of smart comedy, but every channel needs that ratings smash to survive and NBC just hasn't found a true tentpole yet.

In another sign that tv networks have no clue what they are doing, Community has been pulled from the mid-season line-up. Not cancelled yet, but on its way. Whitney will be taking its spot. Yes. Whitney.

NBC is stupid. Big Bang Theory will destroy Whitney or anything else you put in to replace Community.

I'm mad.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

in fairness Community only has at most one more season though, correct?

four years was always the limit on it, at least with the current main cast.
meh. Link was dead :(

There never a set time limit on it from what I remember in interviews. Logically, yes four years would be the limit. However, logic does not apply to American sit-coms.

According to the lady who plays Shirley, nothing but Nielsen and DVR watching counts towards how the network makes its decisions. Hulu, Netflix, itunes, and any other legit sources just don't count. So a show like Community has no chance against BBT. In fact nothing on Thursday, NBC's best night by far, can go head to head with BBT, since it's pretty much universally popular as far as I can tell. NBC is a dinosaur that consistently shows it cannot adapt for the future. It's still looking for another Friends, and that is never going to come along, at least for people who watch through all kinds of media.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

True. If you go by MASH, the Korean War lasted about 10 years.

Started watching PERSON OF INTEREST. There's some dumb moments, and I still haven't got all the Jesus jokes out of my system yet, but it's not too bad.

Too right. There are some silly moments, and some cringe inducing "acting" at times (I'm looking at you mumbling jesus). But for some reason, I'm enjoying this show far more than i thought i would. sadly, I find myself saying this about most new shows, I just hope they actually have a plan for the long story, rather than some vague nonsense which allows them to drag it on forever.

Anyone here watching REVENGE? I saw the first 2 episodes and it seemed pretty good. But I don't see how you could get a full season out of it?

Yeah, I watch REVENGE and it's really quite good! I also wonder where it will go, but so far they've thrown a few early curveballs my way that I've quite enjoyed. Good stuff.

Fixed.

And yeah, it has some stupid and some phenomenally bad acting. While i really enjoyed Emerson on LOST, he's not really living up to his or the character's potential here. I want more manipulative genius and less bumbling tech-nerd-millionaire with a limp.

And i was REALLY hoping they were going for some radical AI angle with the 'program' or at least a decent government conspiracy, but instead we got a relatively non-original crime lord subplot.

Am still in tho.

HAWAII 5-0... after three truly brain deadneningly dumb episodes, if Wo Fatt doesn't show up and kneecap half the cast in the next ep, i'm out. Masi Oka couldn't carry a lead in HEROES and he's doing a dreadful job of supporting role here. Grace Park with a sniper rifle only marginally salvaged the last ep.

Following on a couple of posts upthread i watched the first three eps of STRIKE BACK and holy fnck where has this show BEEN?!? Awesome spy action fun. Movie level tv show no less. So psyched i have the whole first season on OD!

GRIMM... the Billy Goat man ep was predictable, again, and i'm losing interest.
