The BLACKNIVERSE?!

Very interesting ep.

John Noble stole this one with his double performance. The scene with Walternate and Peter was so subtly done, you knew something was funny in the way Walternate was not-quite-looking at Peter. And he was so eeeeeeeevil. Then on the other hand, you have Walter, who has clearly suffered a stroke, yet that is never directly brought up.

Did not see the resolution of the machine/First People coming. I guess that was better than my idea. Though it leaves the Observers unexplained.

And...what did the Observers mean by "He never existed. He served his purpose."??? Is Peter just...gone? I actually think I might be OK with that. But what does that mean for Fauxlivia's baby? Or really, how can the breach exist in the first place since going after Peter was the whole reason the breach was created to begin with? 'Tis a paradox indeed. Questions, questions...
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

BRILLIANT finale.
Total game changer, paid off almost everything we've seen this season and more. Tonnes of great moments.

Best bit was Watternate going after Olivia. Holy fnck.

They did a great job of establishing the future and similar to the redniverse but different, and did a nicely subtle job of setting up the resolution of the machine and the first peoples.
John Noble is brilliant. The way he played Old Walter and a thoroughy evil Walternate were beyond awesome.

Anna Torv did nice job with older Olivia too. Nice touch bringing Ella in and nice 'do, Astrid.

Great great ep, totally redeemed from last ep, and i'm SO HAPPY we have another season ahead.

Lol, I was wondering that too. And I wonder what the headlines in the NY Times were that day. So how many seasons do you think Abrams has planned? I just hope he doesn't pull a Lost and leave so much unexplained, but this series does seem a lot better organized. Viva la Fringe!

Watching the pilot now and... OH MY GOD IS THAT CEDRIC DANIELS!? I can watch this series.

Much as it pains me to say this, my guess is Season 4 will be the end. We really only have three pieces of unfinished business: healing the universes, learning who are the Observers, and learning what happens to Peter's son. All that can be accomplished in a single season.

So if the producers care about finishing strong they're already planning the series finale.

But they may have another trick up their sleeve. We'll see.

Trying to ignore the rest of the thread, because I am only midway through Season 2, but having just watched the one-two-three punch of the one with Josef Mengele using Walter's father formula's to kill selected people, and Walter killing him...and then following that one with the one about the buildings trying to share the same reality ending with Olivia's visual ident powers coming into the fore and then the 1985 one (badass alt opening BTW!) revelation about Peter's AND Walter's past (plus that particularly telling insight from Walter about how he feels about William Bell in 1985)...just melted my brain.

This show is fucking awesome and I can't stop watching. I want to catch up so I can properly contribute to this thread!

Okay, and now I just watched the one called WHITE TULIP with Peter Weller as the MIT scientist who makes his own body into a Faraday Cage just so he can go back in time to save his wife from a car accident...and his convo with Walter who says that he's been waiting for a sign from god for forgiveness in the form of a white tulip, which won't bloom where they live...thus making it rare and a proper sign...

and the one-two hit of having Weller be able to get int eh car before his wife gets in her accident, only to have the truck hit both of them...and then his letter before time traveling, set to be given to Walter a year after...and it's just a picture of a drawn white tulip (that Walter wouldn't know came from him, as he'd never have met him after the time travel success to ten months ago), and with tears in his eyes Walter, looks up and shakes his head up and down thinking "Okay, it's time to tell Peter"...fuck...me. If that didn't make you emotional then you are cold and fucking dead inside.

Damn, that's got to be one of the BEST character driven eps they've done yet, and John Noble just owns that show outright. He's amazing!

Finished Season 2 last night.

Holy fiznuck! Evil Olivia! What a brilliant 2-parter.

I'm only sad that there will be no more Leonard Nimoy (William Bell)...

...but I am effing jazzed to get started on Season 3!

Not necessarily. There's a difference between not existing and having never existed. If the former, the child would still be there. If the latter, well, then you need to add some sort of subspace anomaly (thanks Star Trek Next Generation!) to make it work.

We still don't know what the Observer meant by 'he never existed'.

If Walter's Peter never died, Walter never would have saved/kidnapped Walternate's Peter and none of the damage to the two universes would have happened... but SOMETHING has to have triggered the crisis for the machine to exist and the merged space in the Statute of Liberty to exist at all.

But maybe, then, Walter's save/steal of Peter had nothing to do with any of the universes breaking down. They would have gotten to this point regardless, maybe? Due to experiments Walter/Walternate would have undertaken anyway? Because of Olivia's ability? My head hurts.

The Observer states there are multiple futures unfolding, as soon as the time came when Peter chose not to destroy (having seen the consequences) he made that bridge and ceased to exist. When he dissapears you are seeing a new timeline basically which is why no one reacts to his disappearance. Tons of new things would have happened. For instance if Peter never existed, Elizabeth could still be alive (the creators have said old favourites will return for Season 4) and Walter appears to have crossed over for another reason. Before Peter, him and Bell were still continuing on with their research of the other side. Many things can unfold when you remove one person from time.
