That aside, WTF ARE LIVERPOOL DOING?!?!!? Selling your 2nd best striker at a £5mil loss after 6 months?!? If Torres gets injured, they are FUCKED. It's suicidal decision making, absolutely barmy.

No, no. It'll be fine. We've got eggnog.

Lol yeah imagine your strikeforce if N'gog and Torres suffer an injury... Kuyt on his own :p

It seems a really strange decision, even if it is power games by Rafa, to lose 5-8 m (depending on where you read, 12 million + add-ons seems to be the deal) in 6 months is rather poor.

I actually think Quaresma could prove an inspired signing for Chelsea. They have often been accused of lacking width this season and Quaresma should provide that. In addition, Solari has worked with him a lot before in the Portugal squad so they should have a good relationship and may just get Quaresma performing to the high level he is capable of. I mean, at one time he was rated as highly as Ronaldo, if not better.

If Torres and NGOG get injured, sorry.
If Torres and Kuyt get injured then we're totally fucked. Lets not forget we beat united without the mighty Fernando.
N'Gog should be shot to put him out of his delusion of granduer

You did beat us without Fernando, true, but then you had Keane :p

In addition, playing us at Old Trafford is a completely different kettle of fish, not many teams get anything from there. Also, I don't think Chelsea are out of the race just yet, maybe one more loss away, there's still many matches to go and points do start getting dropped towards the end of the season when all the teams are getting fatigued...

This Arshavin thing is a travesty. Six hours after the deadline and it's still not confirmed either way? I mean, how hard can it be?

Interesting one for Chelsea. Quaresma's not exactly set Milan on fire, but he's got to be better than Malouda, and he's entertaining. Although he's more plugging the Joe Cole shaped gap than adding anything definitively new at the moment. We'll see.

I don't know about the Queresma signing. I watched the Inter Milan match at the weekend and he looks terrible. Again, he's one of those players that has all the skill in the world and no brain. A ridiculous show pony is what he is.
As a winger you're supposed to
a. provide width to spread out the opposing defence.
b. provide some defensive cover for your team, and
c. CROSS THE FUCKING BALL!!!!

I repeat...... CROSS THE FUCKING BALL!!!!

I don't know many times he got the ball in acres of space only to try and show off, cut inside and balloon the ball out of play. His shooting technique made it look like he couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo. And from the commentators it would appear that that performance wasn't unusual. No wonder Mourinho was happy to let him go.

Fair enough on Quaresma, I haven't watched him at all this season, just remember the flashes of quality I have seen when he was in Spain and in the Champions League. Had two good feet, and packed quite a shot. Sounds he's rather like Nani, if things go for him, he's a world beater, but if he's not getting things his way then he can be really frustrating to watch.

So what does everyone reckon was the signing of the window?

I am tipping either Gekas for Portsmouth or Bullard for Hull

I mentioned it above, and I'll say it again: signing Cudicini on free transfer is a star move on the part of Redknapp. Especially considering that he'll be replacing fucking Gomes.

I agree Brynjar, Cudicini looks like a great bit of business. And getting Keane back at a knock down price is an excellent move too.

Overall, it was a pretty disappointing transfer window. I thought there'd be all sorts of crazy panic buying.

I do like the transfer of Kevin Nolan to Newcastle. I think the change of scenery will do him good, and if he can recapture his previous form he'll give them a threat from midfield. It is a big if though.

Haven't seen enough of Jo to be able to say whether it looks like a good move out of Everton. I'm gutted though cos there was a rumour of a veteran swedish player going to the premiership, and I thought that maybe the Mighty Henrik Larsson was going to help Everton out. Would have liked that, cos I have a lot of respect for what Moyes has managed to do. But the rumour initially had Larsson possibly going to West Ham til the end of the season. Pity it didn't happen either way.

Gomes has been vastly improved since the first few months, I reckon Cudicini won't be replacing him entirely.

Jo's crap. Consider that Hughes would rather play Vassell, or Bellamy on his own, than go with Jo, and that he's quite prepared to let him go on loan even though he never got Santa Cruz. He's like Adebayor at his worst, except since he arrived in England he's been like that all the time.

That Mark Davies bloke Bolton got to replace Nolan looks like a good signing, though I hear he has an attitude problem.

Arshavin is a potential star buy, provided it's confirmed, but for now I'm going to go with the signing of the window being Given for City, or Heskey to Villa - it's been a window for consolidation rather than spectacular signings, really. Honourable mention for Giles Barnes to Fulham, which could be a great loan for them, he's a really good player when he's fit and on form.

Arshavin has signed. Probably. Maybe. But if he has, I do have to question why Arsenal are allowed to sign him a day late. And why we've gone for him as opposed to someone who can defend. But I'll ignore those things, because Im delighted we've signed anyone. I think he's a bit of a gamble, he's got talent but Im not sure how much it'll come off in the PL, although I suppsoe the Russian league is also quite physical. At the very least, his reputation will ensure someone might mark him, which may enable someone like Denilson to get the space to actually make a complete pass.

And how much have sp*rs spent AGAIN during the transfer window?! I make it about £50mil, and whilst I know that they didnt really spend any on Keane, that was part of the justification for spurs' extravangant summer spending not actually being much. I had this argument with a housemate, when he said "yeah we're spending now but we made a slight profit in the summer."

Yes, but that slight profit is nullified now Keane and Chimbonda have gone back, so you've also spent £12mil on Palacios, £15mil on Defoe and not made any. Also, how do you justify having to leave TWO £15mil plus strikers on the bench at any time?!? What a waste of money. Defoe must be pissed, he left cos he ws fighting too much for a place, then comes back and finds himself having to compete with Bent and Keane again, Pavlyuchenko instead of Berbatov, and Frazier Campbell. Plus Dos Santos, if he ever plays. I'd be pissed off.

Going by the amount spent on each position for the first team, I get it something like this:

Gomes - £8mil
Hutton - £9mil
Woodgate - £8mil
Corluka - £8.5mil
Bale - £8mil
Zokora - £8.2mil
Palacios - £12mil
Modric - £16.5mil
Bentley- £16mil
Defoe - £15mil
Pavlyuchenko - £14mil

Bench: Cudicini (free), Chimbonda (£3mil from S'land, which was what he was sold for, plus £5.5mil original fee), Bent (£16.5mil), Keane (£7mil if we write off the Liverpool back and forth), dos Santos (£5mil), Lennon (£1.5mil), Dawson (£4mil).

Im leaving King out as he was from the youth academy.

So, their bench and first XI comes to about £163 million. That is a HUGE amount, far more than one CC is worth...

Shite day of results so far, and it looks like Liverpool are going to try their hardest to lose. 3 centre backs, 3 full backs, and a lone striker role for David Eggnog. Fucking useless Benitez, play Kuyt! My dream team suffers cruelly once again!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: If Torres ever asks me to fuck me up the bum, I'm gonna let him. Then maybe, just maybe, by some miracle outshining Maria's immaculate conception, I'll get pregnant with his child. Oh, it will be wonderous!

I watched the Man City-Boro game last night, and it looks like the Given signing was a wise one. While Given isn't a flashy keeper, he makes the opposition actually have to beat him, usually through good positioning and then by standing big as long as possible. Made some great instinctive saves.
Robhinio was rubbish, as was Wright-Phillips. Far too interested in trying the flashy stuff rather than using their skills simply and quickly. For all the joking about signing Bellamy, when he had his chances to take on a defender, he wasn't showy but used his pace and skill to win a throw in or corner, or actually get his shot away (as he did for the goal). Ireland's performance I'm not too sure about, cos he also tried a lot of flicks which seemed out of place, but in fairness they did come off a lot of the time.
It will be interesting to see how the team plays when Dunne returns, cos he's used to playing with Given, and it will allow Kompany to move up into midfield with De Jong. Micah Richard's still looks like the weak link at the back, a fantastic athlete, he gets pulled out of position way too easily and causes his teammates a lot of problems as a result. When you see how easily the Boro players managed to cause problems simply by kicking it long, I still fear for Man City. But I can see Hughes turning it around.

But I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that both VILLA and EVERTON can spoil things for the big4 and manage to break into the champions league spots this year. Could yet happen given Chelsea's apparent fragility and Arsenal's bizarre form. Please please let it happen. I want to see clubs run well get their reward and both Villa and Everton fit that bill.

Shoot N'gog, hes barely good enough for the reserves. Poor touych, poor shooting, woeful positioning, his turn of pace is useless because he does have a footballing brain to use it.

ALonso, kuyt and torres saved the day.

Aurelio put in a solid performance as always, benayoun was anonymous nearly.

I was more than slightly drunk by the ned of the game, drove me to drink, near shit myself in delight when torre scored, worst hangoverr ever.

Have to hand it to liverpool, they have been a lot more resilient this season and nicking late goals when they would have just had a draw in previous seasons. However, the impact of the subs proved once again that while Liverpool do have a first XI capable of challenging for/winning the premier league, their back-up is nowhere near good enough, making the decision to sell keane even more confusing.

Now for United to claim a 12th straight clean sheet and their rightful place at the top of the Premier League! :harhar:

13th...

Good game though. We were still a bit scrappy in attack (Tevez is honestly starting to piss me off this season - hard graft is great, but he's had maybe three or four games where he's actually played well, and he kept slowing down and wasting our attacks today) but West Ham defended very well and caused us problems going forward too.

It was encouraging to see Liverpool barely scrape a win against the worst form team in the league and Chelsea fail to beat either the second or the third (don't know if it's them or Boro)...
