meh, archilies Vs Hector wasnt that good, bit of a let down actually.
anyone who mentions a star wars bout loses a testicle

7 samurai anyone?

Maximus Vs Tigris (gladiator, 2002)
Maximus Vs Commoodus is excellent as well

basically every fight in the three musketeers (the kiefer southerland version) they're jsut such fun (thought the older version is much dirtier and realisitc)

Some of the old Flynn Vs Rathbone movies, although reputedly rathbone had a hard time not killing flynn he was so inept

My da often comments that the original Zorro movie had a far better swordfight, I can't comment

Indy gunning down the big guy in Ciaro :o

and of course the BEST swordfight on screen evar (although the duelists is reputably good for its age I havent seen it)
RobRoy

(honourable mention tot he princess bride :o)

I'll look for tube videos when I get home, blocked at worked

Zatoichi .. I think that's how it's spelled. The newest one, naturally.. I was much impressed.

Also, the sword fighting in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was mostly awsome I think.

There were some good scenes in Willow with Val Kilmer. Also liked a few of the Arnie ones from Conan and Red Sonia.

I just watched a montage so shit i won't even link it, but the movies on it were:

The Man in the Iron Mask
Gladiator
The Mask of Zorro
The Musketeer
Hook
The Princess Bride
Pirates of the Caribbean at Worlds End
Robin Hood

The Princess Bride was clear winner. Mostly due to the fucking classic look on Cary Elwes face the whole time.

Highlander and Willow are definitely great movies. I'm not convinced we've found one epic enough yet.

I'm thinking the scene in Hero where they fight off the arrows...

Just take a look at the fight scenes in Zaitochi on youtube, the 2003 version. I don't think I've seen anything quite as believable -though I doubt a Katan could cut through stone blocks, but apart from that :o ..

The scene in Kill Bill where The Bride massacres the crazy 88s. That's pretty cool. Not strictly a sword fight, but the battle between the 2 women in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is good.

The fight scene where Boromir is killed is also pretty good.

There are some good ones in the 13th Warrior too.

Live action

Rob roy is def. one of my all time favourite live action swordfights. Has a really good resolution too cause you think Niessen is toast and then totally guts the rich douche by holding the douche's blade into his own shoulder WITH HIS BARE HAND. Win win win win win.

I'll also second the hector v. Achilles fight from troy and Gladiator as very honorable mentions.

For a new suggestion, the ligthsaber duel between Obi, Quaigon and Maul at the end of Ep. 1. Very nice action and a cool ending, coreographed by one of the better action guys in the biz.

==========================
Tooney/anime swordfights:

Secret of Nimh, when justin and Jenner fight it out. Shocking since it's in a kids movie and one of them actually dies. Really well drawn scene, a great dark atmosphere with the cinder block on the ropes moving overhead. Short but very cool and one of the ones that impressed itself most on my memory from childhood.

I thought the sword scenes in the berserk series were generally well done. Very fantastic and extreme amounts of kickassery.

The newer FF movie with the massive fight at the end where cloud is trying to take out whassisname, a bunch of low level clods and a fncking dragon all at once. Super fantastical, but dang entertaining to watch.

I'm going to put in another contender (I think no one has mentioned it)..

Seen the version of The Count of Monte Cristo starring James Caviezel, and Guy Pearce? I love the swordplay... particularly the climactic fight in the field.

Skywalker - also shamelessly enjoys the Ep 1/ 3/ 5/ 6 fights but won't nominate them for virility reasons.
