For a new suggestion, the ligthsaber duel between Obi, Quaigon and Maul at the end of Ep. 1. Very nice action and a cool ending, coreographed by one of the better action guys in the biz.

==========================
Tooney/anime swordfights:

Secret of Nimh, when justin and Jenner fight it out. Shocking since it's in a kids movie and one of them actually dies. Really well drawn scene, a great dark atmosphere with the cinder block on the ropes moving overhead. Short but very cool and one of the ones that impressed itself most on my memory from childhood.

both are very good. i would nominate maul/quigon/obiwan as my favorite that i can recall. ive seen some other great ones but i cant recall them at this time. one i do remember is the sword fight in king arthur between the norseman and the good guy with the hawk. highlander also rules ass.

you don't get to make the rules. It's not your thread!

And how can you leave out star wars. For fake sword fights, they are pretty damn awesome looking. Seriously.

This is the knife fight at the end of Under Siege between Steven Segal and Tommy Lee Jones. It starts at about the 2:05 mark and ends pretty quickly, but awesomely.

Tommy Lee JOnes and Benicio Del Toro had a good knife fight in the Hunted.

I am not left handed.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

meh, archilies Vs Hector wasnt that good, bit of a let down actually.

It gets points for the way it starts as a spear fight and escalates to swords.

You leave my sack alone - the Darth Maul scene at the end of ep 1 almost justifies the existance of the rest of the mess.

basically every fight in the three musketeers (the kiefer southerland version) they're jsut such fun (thought the older version is much more hideously boring and dull)

agreed on the Keifer version but otherwise editted for accuracy.

and of course the BEST swordfight on screen evar (although the duelists is reputably good for its age I havent seen it)
RobRoy

I have to totally disagree with you here. While a beautiful example of why a scrawny dude with a rapier will generally get his ass handed to him by a brawny albeit slower dude with a broadsword, glorious swordfighting it was not.

Highlander 1 ...

Solid choice. And while there were ample weak points, the TV show had some solid ones too.

Morgoth;326789 said:

...the sword fighting in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was mostly awsome I think.

Yes, but all very 'pretty'.

There were some good scenes in Willow with Val Kilmer. Also liked a few of the Arnie ones from Conan and Red Sonia.

Willow, eh; Conan hell yeah. Sonja, god no.

I would add:

The Aragon v Uruk Hai dude at the end of FELLOWSHIP.

The finale of ENTER THE NINJA.

Ditto Chuck Norris' THE OCTAGON.

And i have a vague recollection that THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER had some awesome swordwork, but can't be sure if that's not just nostalgia and a fondness for movies with swords that shoot swords at people .

- Abyss, wants to ref BRAVEHEART but really those are battle scenes, not swordfights.

Agrees with the crippled cat

The fight between Death Maul and Quai Gon and Obi Wan in Starwars Episode 1. Damn it was cool.

Nobody mention lightsaber fights in the episode 4-6 though. Terrible and badly coreographed.

I just have to bring forth this little charmer that I found through Amphibian's Seagal clip. It just shows how awsome Seagal is :o ..

Anyways, I stand by my choice regarding Zatoichi. In SW ep1, they generally spin around too much for it to be truly realistic. I loved the little comment in Dragonheart about the only thing you'll achieve by spinning around is to get a sword through your back. Pretty but relatively useless

As my top-list has already been covered, I'd like to nominate Mal vs. the Operative, in Serenity... and the fighting in The Mask of Zorro (even though it was a bit too funny at times).

Jackie Chan vs. the British dude with the Sabres, in Shanghai Knights, that was also quite cool.

True Abyss... the Highlander series had some of the best sword fight scenes in the history of sword fight scenes... but that is as it should be given the whole theme of Highlander...

Highlander 3 had some good sword fights... though the rest of the movie could have done without a illusionist wizard

To stray off topic just a bit, and I wait for the battering I might get for suggesting such a thing, the WORST sword fight I've ever seen, is the one where Darth Vader kills Obi Wan Kenobi. The fighting is just so slow and blatantly planned. The poor old Alec Guinness is already blocking Vader's strikes before he's even made them. Now I know he's got the Force, but come on.

One of my favourites, and impressive since one of the fighters was a stop-motion animated puppet added in after the fact:

Final battle in Evil Dead 3 "Army of Darkness" where Campbell fights evil Campbell reincarnated or whatever the ridiculously awesomely ridiculous plot is at that point.

Stop motion is one of my true weaknesses. Put it in there and you've got me hooked.

The old-ass Jason and the Argonauts movie where they argonauts fight off a horde of stop-motion animated skeleton warriors. Cheesy but still very impressive for its time and ground-breakiness.
