Personally I expect Erikson to eventually wrap up what it is he is trying to accomplish and I think you are all going to do a backflip and love him.
Go Errant go!

The mental pic of Gem doing backflips and other bendy things just sent my Letch mechanism into overdrive but moving on...........

I dont think Gem is ever going to Love the Errant.

It seemed that in RG, the Errant's goals were little more than regaining the influence and power he held before all of these uppity, precocious "lesser" gods from the warrens started mucking around. He whines and moans about the old days, and now the world is spinning out of his control. So he sets a trap for Mael to prove, mostly to himself, that he is still a major player.

The double-edged sword, of course, is that with a resurgence of godly actions comes worshipers and a restrictive structure. So Featherwitch horrifies him. His freedom to meddle at his own, and no one else's whims are equally as important as his ego.

True but the Errant has always had worshippers has he not? Im sure that there is a temple dedicated to the Errant in Lether? In the present day i mean? I recall reading a few lines about the Errant priesthood but its late and im tired so maybe im wrong. I know that ages back his followers all got wiped out but the average everyday Letherii citizen still uses his name as a blessing or curse.

But a number of times the Errant has hinted that he has at least a small ability to see into the future, i think that all his actions are leading to goals that are of course at least partly selfish(He is a god of course, numerous times in the series Erikson has made statements that most gods are uncaring as to the fate of those around them).

Dumb question time!

When you refer to FA it's the Forkul Assail, but when you say FE, who the heck do you mean?

I'd make a wonderful argument for how all you folks who like Tehol but despise the Errant are being hypocritical with your moral high grounds.

Tehol didn't kill Trull. So there.

Flip side, the Errant was afraid of Icarium.

True, Tehol only killed Letur Anict, Karos Invictad, and thousands of nameless peasants, Indebted, nobles, Patriotists and others.

I mean *consults the Cedance* ... hmmm ... Club of Mob approaches the Tile of Errant led by Gem of Forum ... no, wait ... not me ... I am the Consort ... no honest ... get the manservant ... he is an Elder God ... no really ... ahhh ... *sound of much clubbing and other associated gory sounds*

Exactly.

Whereas the Errant killed Trull.

Trull, dammit! ;_;

Also, Brys and maybe the Ceda, even though the former didn't stick.

More like a fine paste on the wall....

also TRULL DAMN IT!!!

nothing Tehol can do will make that large of an impact in my personal reading experience in this series. Its not so much what each character does to effect the world we are reading, but what they do that effects ME!

also.... TRULL DAMN IT!!

That's right. Tehol killed a bunch of bad guys and some other face less people for the good of Lether.

The Errant killed off Trull because he could. The squirmy worm.

Really? I seem to recall that being Sirryn.
The Errant just watched, which is as none of you can argue his style.
Oh and maybe he nudged here and there but he is a god who does not directly intervene. Except for when he drowned Featherwitch which i think for him was him pushed to the extreme.

Reiko is sure going to miss Trull though:(

Also Trull was the agent of another power, it was in the Errants interests that if Trull couldnt be used he needed to be disposed of.

I'm sure those thousands of faceless people were really grateful to have the chance to die for the good of Lether. They probably didn't mind seeing their children starve to death because of the economic collapse Tehol created, either - it was for the good of Lether, after all!

No, it was The Errant that arranged the whole thing. And it's pretty clear none of what he did was 'extreme' for him - just look at what he did to Brys. Sure that didn't stick, but the Errant didn't know that. He's been doing the same thing for ages. And he's probably gloating about it too.

I still maintain theres a purpose to all that he has been doing.
I dont recall any passages where he has actually gloated about what he has done, i always got the impression he did what he had to do, for whatever reasons.
And I meant taking an "Active" role, he could have stepped out of the shadows at anytime as it where and saved the Ceda/ Brys/ Trull/Tehol's chickens at anytime.

Also he sees himself as THE God of Lether, how would you feel if other gods invaded your playpen?
Anyways Mael already beat the snot out of him once:D go Bugg!

The Errant, over time, has accumulated a vast amount of power. He's earned it fair and square using the systematic means of the Letheri system for such things. He then uses this power to screw up a couple peoples' lives every now and then.

Tehol Beddict, over time, has accumulated a vast amount of wealth. He's earned it fair and square using the systematic means of the Letheri system for such things. He then uses this power to collapse the entire Empire and in so doing kills thousands of people from all walks of life.

There should not be a moral consideration to this. Neither Tehol nor the Errant claims a moral high ground. They both accept the consequences of it, and neither gloats about it either.
