Can't remember exactly where it is, but it is mentioned that the poison, white paralt, could be disbursed out of a person's body, but by the time it did, it would be too late, the heart would stop. However, in the azath house time flows differently and Shadowthrone was betting there would be enough 'time' for Kalam's system to flush out the poison while he was unconscious. So I think we'll see Kalam revived, so to speak.

@ Bhok'arala: that's why I add "imho" :D

RE: Kalam--he's in the Azath house that has the insta-heal water Fid used in DG. since he made it there, I have few doubts we'll see him again.

Kalam in RotCG is really an interesting idea!
I hadn't thought of him outside the main sequence before. It ties in with ST maybe wanting Laseen dead as well -- he may aid the CrimGuard.

This is still a good topic, even if old and discussed to death.

well, considering he was ICE's creation, it'll be interesting to see how ICE handles him after all that SE's done with him...
And for the record--I expect RotCG to be rather assassin-heavy, to make up for the lull of RG...

Will Kalam see the empire as his enemy now? Say he went up against some soldiers who'd never done anything to him. I can't see that happening, but still...

I don't think he will
Laseen did a pretty good job convincing him that she's working for the best interests of the Empire in DG. All she needs to do is get a message across that Mallick Rel has her by the throat--and Kalam will be on her side again.
also, with Topper gone under and the idea that there may still be some Talon around, things could get really complicated if teh word "rebellion" is brought up...

Kalam would not turn against the Empire, he's fought claw before and he'll be willing to fight them again.
That whole claw scenario was Pearl's doing, not the Empresses. Kalam knows what a tight spot the Empress is in, he will not suddenly turn against her because of betrayal and hate.

Kalam, Vorcan and Nom may come out of the Azath even stronger, a poignant point. Kalam and Vorcan were crazy enough as they were.

The Empress might want to consider how QB feels about everything. If she manipulates him properly, he'd be a good candidate to wipe out Rel, especially after
Spoiler

Personally, I'd leave her to fix things herself and pray she ends up with her head in the street and a mob using it as a soccer ball. Her epitaph should be "Laseen, self proclaimed thronemaster. Her stupidity was unequalled."

hmm
I doubt QB's gonna be back in Quon Tali any time soon. He has the small matter of the CG to deal with..
I'm fairly certain Laseen will be left pretty much on her own (excluding Topper) to deal with Rel and Dom. However, in words of Dujek: "Don't underestimate the Empress". In MoI we are told that Kellanved learned people manipulation and politicking/intrigue from her, not the other way around.
The most plausible theory atm, for me is that majority of the claws that died in Malaz City that night were Phantom Glove claws, leaving Rel weakened, and the Empress more free to manouever.

Im sure that Rel's not the only one keeping tabs on Laseen. One of the others could just pick up the slack.

well, Rel's the one that corrupted the Claw.
Dom's a moron, so he wouldn't be able to do anything.
Who else are you suggesting?

none in particular. SE is known for throwing some pretty offhand twists that leave some of us reeling; like when Tavore kills her sister.
that comment about Dom is subjective, he's a moron to you, yes; to everyone else, maybe not so much

lol.
well, in htis case I'll stik with the majority that believes that Rel is the evil mastermind in the Malazan Empire at the moment.
And I will await RotCG impatiently to see just what becomes of his endeavors :D

Didn't he pre-empt bidthadal's attack of the little girls, ressurect the talons and come up with the idea to use the nobles to lure coltaine into a trap?

not sure how much of that was him, how much of it was Reloe
RE: Talons
we're not sure if he resurrected the actual organization, or just rounded up survivors.
I have a hard time believing an Old Guard such as Hawl would work for Dom, and we know for a fact that she was a Talon.
The REAL Talons, may still be about, but I doubt that Dom is in any way connected with them
he didn't lure Coltaine into a trap, just a mob of stupid civilians, who in turn ripped his ambush to shreds, because he left them nowhere to run.
