And last night I watched Priest. Who has seen it? I have no idea about the source material. It was almost brilliant but missed it by some distance.

I saw it a couple of times. It was an interesting concept, some of the fight scenes seemed like 'copy & paste' & over use of CGI were a bit annoying. I liked the main character, though. The mighty Church as Gov't is always good for a dystopian alarmist thrill backdrop, but I suppose given the title, it is to be expected.
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

I saw Gone Girl. It's good, but not as good as I hoped it would be.

I thought it was very well done - but still no performances, writing or direction worthy of an award. It's also got overtures behind the general story that remind me of The Hunt, with Mads Mikkelsen.

Saw GONE GIRL. Ho-ho-holy shit that was disturbing!
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Have read the book not seen the film but I think that's the point. There were some things I NEVER saw coming...

Went to see Tennage Mutant Ninja Turtles last night

Went in with incredibly low expectations so was pleasantly surprised that was watchable, in a silly cartoony violence kind of way, they didn't make too much of Megan Fox's ass (a mixed feeling on this, whilst I do like her ass, I have google if I'm that desperate to stare at it for an hour) surprising considering Bays use of it in transformers.
Shredder was a bit OTT, but with the size and strength they had given the turtles he had to be bulked up.
rapheol was always my favourite of the 4 so his screen time was a bonus.

not as bad as I expected, could have been better, but fun

I watched Bad Grandpa (unrated version I think) and it was pretty solid, but definitely a case of a trailer ruining a lot of the fun.

Re-watched The House of the Devil cuz Netflix seems unaware that Halloween is coming up and hasn't stocked Instant with any new good horror, and it was still great.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Saw THE BOOK OF LIFE. Phenomenal animation. Story just OK. We saw in 3D, but I don't think that added anything.

Is that the one with Charming Potato as a voice?

Anyone watch Birdman (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) yet?

I've a few things I want to talk about it, but they're going to involve fairly extensive spoilers.

No but if ignorance is a virtue not having seen the film doesn't disqualify me from discussing. So fire away!

Have you ever watched a movie that ended past the point you'd have expected it to end?

Not a bad thing in this case - just an unexpected one and one that leave things very open to interpretation.

To answer your first question: Yes, Return of the King, around 330AM opening night.

To consider your clarification: the feeling sounds familiar so I'm sure of it, but nothing off the top of my head. Gotta think a while.

There were a couple points like that for me in GONE GIRL.

Gone Girl. That shit was bonkers. Flippn' Fatal Attraction on steroids. "Gone Girl" ?, eff that shit, more like "Gone Me" (if I was Ben Affleck). I would have packed up me and my hog and got the hell outta there!

I keep saying this but damn Interstellar looks better with each new trailer. I think it's going to be pretty epic.

Something about it captures me...I really hope its this generations 2001.

Did a little horror mini-marathon last night with my sisters, four films:

Lake Eden: I chose this one cuz it was still daylight out and it isn't supernatural, plus I felt like kicking things off with a real feel-good film. Still liked it. I think they enjoyed it.

Sinister (the one with Ethan Hawke): an outside recommendation. Absolutely awful. Some of the kills were cool, but otherwise dull and not at all scary.

The Strangers (the one with Liv Tyler): actually pretty good. Very effective in setting up tension. Often people mention it as their scariest movie ever, and it wasn't that for me, but it definitely had some hair-raising moments.

Oculus: I hated the trailers but people here liked it so I wanted to give it a chance, and I'm glad I did. It wasn't scary, but it was an effective supernatural thriller that was engaging the whole way through and rarely stupid (unlike Sinister, which was almost wholly stupid). In a way, it was like a smallscale chamber version of IT. And the occasional grossout/body horror stuff was so good.

Major spoilers for all four films:

Yeah the best part of Sinister was the lawnmower video.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Deadline reporting Cumberbatch has been cast as Doctor Strange - IF this turns out to be true then this will be a film I cannot wait for!
