About Me

"Gatekeeper: the questions of whether readers cry at certain sections of these novels must always be preceded by the question of whether or not I cry when writing those scenes. If I feel nothing then readers will feel nothing; if I feel something, and manage to get that across in the prose, then I hope the readers will feel the same, but I cannot expect it. It's more down to just feeling anything, isn't it?" -Steven Erikson

I just read you post in the series ending note from Steve thread and just wanted to ask you whether many other soldiers find the MBoTF as compelling as you do. When I first started reading it I thought it would be huge for military folk. I later sent it to my friends serving with the Canadian military in Afghanistan. Hood's hairy balls do they ever love the Bridgeburners and Bonehunters.

Of course I had to read it! – I’m always easily lured out into the open by mentions of Pearl (yes, I’m slightly obsessed, I know…).
Again, great little snippet! And so “in-character”. The very sentence “They had taken my rings.” was heart-wrenching and gave it a genuine feeling. Such a tiny detail, but It’s always in the details…
