Just finished - had detoured through some science fiction that I wanted to finish up before starting this.

I capped it off with SEís podcast episode yesterday too - some good questions and answers. Interesting to hear that the scene at the end where Mappo and Icarium show up too late to save anyone (except for Bent and Roach) was the starting point for writing this novel. A tiny gesture to help offset the horror of the Chain of Dogs. SE does a good job of using small moments like that to lighten the mood - like Coltaine demoting the sapper captain. Itís a wonderful moment amidst the darkening tone as the Chain nears its conclusion.

Having formatting issues on my computer odd. Phone it is.

Traveler - thatís a good thought. The cabal is, fittingly, a bit shadowy in that there doesnít seem to be a lot of info about them, their numbers, etc. We can say that in regard to number there are / were at least six (Baruk, Mammot, Derudan, and three killed by Vorcan).

My other thought was that perhaps itís related to aspects of the five tusks. The wiki says those tusks are Love, Hate, Laughter, War, and Tears. It could be that this is referencing how the tusks are impacting the world and that these things exist in the world.

Iím also reading along. Havenít had any comments yet but just finished GotM, enjoyed it as usual, and am waiting until Feb for DG.

I did think that the references to the Pannion Seer were interesting. I remember when first reading this that I thought nothing of it, really glossed over it, but the wheels were in motion to start funneling resources to oppose the Seer.

Speaking of wheels, how about the Wheel of Ages and itís ability to foreshadow with The Year of the Moonís Tears. Ominous on first read through and has a deeper meaning now. Iím still trying to decide if the preceding year, The Year of Five Tusks has any further meaning.

Tor has a bunch of their newer books on sale for $2.99 each. Havenít read any of them personally but have heard good things about Blood of an Exile and A Memory Called Empire .

Congrats SB! Well done on the season.

It was a rough one for me. I thought I put together a good team but just fell short in several matchups. Always interesting to look at the draft picks in retrospect and see how little changes could have had some big impacts.
