haven't posted here in a while...I've totally run out of fantasy series I'm interested in and are kind of desperate. My favourite authors are taking their sweet time with their books and Goodreads is so not helpful. So..
Does anyone have experience with the Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne books? Are they worth reading and on what level compared to MBotF? Any other good, modern series you could recommend? If I should put this into a separate thread, please tell me *bow*

I'm on the last book right now and I really enjoy the series. The scope is not close to Malazan, but more typical for an epic fantasy trilogy. The first book is quite narrow with most of the time spent on two characters in a training academy type setting. I didn't think that was something I wanted to read about again, but the storytelling is quite good. I'd say Blood Song is a good comparison for the first book.

Regarding the "stupidity" that people criticize the books for, most of it is the characters working off of limited information and not sharing what they know with each other. IMO their decisions make sense and they have good reasons to not trust each other. Then there are characters that they should know NOT to trust but they do anyway, but again I think sort of it makes sense.

I bought Malice a few months ago but I haven't started it yet. I didn't know there were giants in it. I'm looking forward to reading it maybe sometime this year.

400-odd pages into "The Blackest Heart" (went on a bit of a binge yest).

It's really annoying when one PoV keeps offhandedly repeating that "oh yeah, X and Y are totes evil", and then you've got pages upon pages upon pages from multiple other PoV characters (in other parts of the world) chilling and questing, and/or falling for with X or Y, blissfully unaware an enormous backstab (s?) is/are coming.

Still like the set-up, and especially the background, with there being like 5 different "Holy Texts" with diff interpretations of the backstory; but most of the characters seems to have been beaten with the stoopid stick, and that is.... frustrating.

This series in on my radar. I saw that the author shortened it to a trilogy, but the last book will be like To Green Angel Tower length (I make the comparison because the author is a huge Tad fan).

I think I have a higher tolerance for "stupidity" in characters than most do. People complain about it in the Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne, but it doesn't bother me and I understand why the characters make the bad decisions they do.

Sounds like book 6 probably won't be out this year. Someone asked Pierce on instagram how long till book 6.

Pierce said, "A bit. Had to reverse course to give it the story it deserves." "Thanks for understanding amigo. Killed me to u turn but u turn I did."

Just north of Noblesville. You grow up in Southern Indiana or going to school down there for the Aces?
