Watchmen

I only caught this trailer the other night for the first time, although I had heard rumblings of it for the past few months and how awesome it is supposed to be. I can't comment about the comics as I've never read them and also know next to nothing of the story, but the trailer looks like Watchmen could be the film to watch next year. I just hope that it's made accessible enough so those that are new to it can enjoy it fully.

I think someone really needs to read From Hell or Maus or Love and Rockets or all sorts of other things before making contentious statements like that...

On the Veidt Nazi connection, the idea is actually
Anyway, overall, I'm cautiously optimistic, but I must point out that the successful adaptation of 300 means absolutely nothing for this film, since you couldn't find two more fundamentally different comics if you tried. I do think it'll turn out as a good film, but in the same way that LotR were good films - they were, very, but the tone didn't bear much resemblance to the books, particularly the latter two films. Similarly here - it'll have the story and make a good show out of it, but a lot of the thematic depth will be abandoned.
On other comics, I thought Maus was crap. It seemed to me people let the subject matter disguise the fact that it's kind of boring and very unsubtle. It's been ages since I read it though, if I do again my opinion may change.
I think it's a grossly underrated medium though, you see people getting excited by the storytelling techniques of Lost and Heroes, and just think 'well comics have been doing that for years'. It's nice to see comic book movies getting people interested, but a lot of the time they just read some comics of the franchise the film they just watched was from and then bail. Not many people realise there's more to comics than superheroes.

I have not read Maus or Love and Rockets, but is it too hard to believe that I prefer Gaiman's works over others?

So last night I was walking downtown for some pizza at like 1am with some friends of mine,
and someone said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole pizza."
I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

WATCHMEN is amazing. I'd also recommend PRIDE OF BAGDHAD.
Saw thw WATCHMEN trailer - odg, they may actually pull this off. The Owl and his ship were awesome, they got the Roscharsch mask right... i'm not so sure about Ozymandias but otherwise wow.
The director is the guy who did 300, so he's experienced at working off GN source material. I'm cautiously optimistic.
- Abyss, noted the trailer shows the scene of Doc M leading American forces into Viet Nam and it was picture perfect from the GN...
Pride of Baghdad made me cry like no other at the end. Wow. Powerful novel.
Watchmen has some of the best writing I've ever come across... seriously. All you literature buffs should read it for the sheer power of its writing alone.

Can I just say that I haven't been this excited about a comic book movie since Batman Begins?
Because Watchmen is freakin' awesome.
I am fanatical about Rorscharch, too. I stalked the guy who cosplayed him at AWA...just a little.

Also, not too fond of that trailer. It's not the content of it, but it's really badly cut and they fucked the music in it up. Hopefully that's because they're concentrating on the film and not because of sloppy values all round. But the first one was brilliant, so it's a little annoying.

I, and both Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons too if you read their statements on the matter, am always kind of amused that most people's favourite character from Watchmen is the probably the worst human being in it...

A character doesn't have to be a paragon of humanity to be a good character, or even to be sympathetic. Plus he's got easily the most development.
I must admit though I was quite cold to him on first read. Great subsequently though.

Its all sorted now.
Fox have settled for an undisclosed amount.
Release date is still 6 march
Just means that Warner Bro's are going to have to wait a bit longer to turn a profit.
Fox should eat a bag of dicks though.
Thank got it will be without Fox chief Tom (eat all the dicks) Rothman employing his editing room acumen to adjust the feature to a more “commercially viable” size

From what I've heard, Fox are getting points on the gross. Which is pretty fucked-up if you ask me as they've not contributed anything at all to the final picture. They're probably going to earn a shedload of money by the simple expedient of hiring a few lawyers...
Although arguably, given that this is Fox we're talking about, we should probably be glad that they're going to be paid to keep their grubby hands off it...

Hmmm unless you know someone from fox there is no way of being sure what fox exactly got or will get.

They reached an agreement last thursday which which was later in the day stated as being a "confidential agreement".
No one really knows, but the best guess would be a persentage of the gross profit.
I did hear that WB apparently did put money aside in case of fox suing before they even started filming.
But after the hype started building I doubt they put enough aside.
