So i broke like a twig and picked up ADWD along with ROBOPOCALYPSE, both in hardback, for just under $30CND, actually free with judicious use of gift card and coupon, so yay me and now i need to go add something to my GHOST STORY pre-order to get free shipping.

- Abyss, weak like weakling.

Haha, I honestly didn't think you'd crumble sir. LOL You caved like a spellunker.

Ah well, get reading!

It came down to dollars. It cost me no more to just buy DWD outright and adding something else i wanted to my Ghost Story pre-order.

Which is why GS will arrive in 2 weeks or so along Conyers/Suseri's THE SPIRALING WORM: TALES OF MAN VS CTHULU MYTHOS, thanks to a Stone Monkey reco elsethread.

Indeed. I'm sure your re-watches of GOT and the spoiler threads about ADWD had nothing at all to do with it. :p

I haven't bought it yet, but there's a nice TPB of Moby Dick sitting on the shelf at Half Price Books, and I've got a couple dollars in my pocket; tonight it will be mine.

Picked up a large sized paperback of The Judging Eye on sale for $10 NZ, not bad. Now I just need Warrior Prophet and I can start my long planned PoN binge.

edit: on the subject of Stover, are there any plans for or any chance, do you think, of a BoT reprint? I'd like to read the Cain's Law series. Although, BoT is for sale second hand on amazon, so it's not like it's totally unavailable...

Sadly, I don't see them reprinting BoT. It's available in eBook format, otherwise you just have to keep your feelers out for a decently-priced used copy.

Gah! I bought _Cast in Chaos_ by Michelle Sagara -- again! I thought it was the next book in the series (Chronicles of Elantra).

Picked up DRAGON WING (Book 1 of the Deathgate Cycle) by Weis and Hickman
...

Let me know about it! I always look at these 7 books at BAM but have never heard from anyone taht has read them if they are worth it.

The Death Gate cycle books were awesome when i read them many years back... very different from the dragonlance stuff... almost re-read them when i was back in South Africa but opted to raid my brothers graphic novels ;o)

These are a great series and worth the read, notwithstanding Weis/Hickman's tendency to only do one big finish action scene at the end of each book.

Dude, Abyss! At least check out some of his Star Wars stuff. The man wrote what is arguably the most Star Wars-y entry in the SW canon, after the original trilogy: Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor, and his novelization of Revenge of the Sith is flat out amazing. (Not to mention the highly metaphysical Traitor, or his Mace Windu/Joseph Conrad mashup, Shatterpoint.) You're seriously missing out, man.

Agreed with both Mindor and Sith....those books are amazing.

Noted, but it's still Star Wars, which means at no point is Chebacca going to club anyone to death with C3P0.

If you find a second hand copy in good shape for a decent price jump on the muthafuckah.
Otherwise it's e-book or bust.

Yup, churned through it on Saturday. :D

Great read, I enjoyed it lots, the man delivers, but I do have some mixed feelings. Will read it again less quickly in a few days.

Kinda funny that I don't even live in an English-speaking country and get the Dresdencrack first...

@Dinivan
So you're in Scotland ... ? :D

Just placed an order through alibris.com for Caine Black Knife (new), Blade of Tyshalle (used, good condition) and Heroes Die (new). 3 books: $AU26.

Shipping: $AU40. Zounds!

There are all sorts of 30 day free shipping deals but I'm leery of those (especially as I live Down Under, and there's always a catch), I'll wait to see if other people rate them positively after using them a few times.

Oh well ... if it isn't worth it I'll skin Abyss and use his fur as a toilet mat. :D

That shipping cost is nasty!

Have you tried the uk book depository? I've bought 12 books from them, and the only problem I've with their free shipping was that one book arrived late. Even though books are posted, not couriered, in my experience they arrive in good condition, and they'll resend or refund books that don't turn up. I found this out by emailing them about a book that was two weeks overdue. Of course said book arrived later that day. I guess I could have pretended that it never did and got the refund, but I opted for +1 lawful good instead. :D

The uk book depository wouldn't have been an option for BoT though, I don't think they sell second hand books.

edit: and from the sound of it, Dinivin is an Aussie... hehehe :D

Nope, I am German

And that's heavy shipping cost. Makes me wonder how much it'll cost to get my books when I am in Beijing...

I think you're vastly underrating what Stover is allowed to get away with within the SW EU. Granted, his Mace Windu doesn't get to call everyone "motherfucker", but still. In Traitor in particular, the main character spends a chunk of the book being tortured, and a Jedi making his last stand fills up an entire corridor with dead bodies. The whole "the dark side/light side dichotomy is B.S." philosophy is just icing on the cake at that point.

Since a bunch of you guys seem to really like the Star Wars Extended Universe, I'm curious what you made of Greg Bear's foray into that area. He did the book, ROGUE PLANET which was set between The Phantom Menace, and whatever the second movie was called. I was a huge Greg Bear fan back then, and I thought he did a great job fleshing out Anakin's character, so you could at least see how he could slide towards the dark side. Basically he didn't seem like a whiny git, and there was some cool tech in it as well. I was hoping he's do some more in the Star Wars universe but he never did.

I thoroughly enjoyed Stover's Star Wars books as well.

I liked this book a lot. More to do with the subject matter than the author himself, as I'd never heard of him before.
This is the one about Zonama right?

Some interesting back story on 'the far outsiders' which pleased me no end, having read TNJO series first.

Loved Vergere too, a big character in later novels.

I have to say, I really enjoyed the Darth Bane trilogy, loved how it kind of tied in to KOTOR.

Greg Bear? Funny, I've read a Star Trek, a Star Wars, and a Foundation book, all by him, as well as the first couple of his Eon books. I enjoyed Rogue Planet, but it never really stuck with me, though I liked the NJO tie-in, naturally.
