I recently went over the series that I own (just the series mind you) and discovered that, barring my wife's books (McCaffrey, Feist, Brooks, Eddings, Rawn, etc.) I own 15 completed series that I have yet to read, and I have 6 completed series that I have started but not finished.

May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Probably my last self-purchased book before Christmas I finally got my hands on DOCTOR WHO: THE COMING OF THE TERRAPHILES by Michael Moorcock.
...and what's cool is that all the previous DW books have been these little paperback-sized hardcovers.....well this one (probably because it's a Moorcock one) is a PROPER full size hardcover and is about 3 times as long as any other DW book....consider me fucking pumped for it!

I got some unexpected belated birthday money today, and then managed to find a like-new, signed, book club hardcover omnibus edition of Gene Wolfe's Book of the Short Sun on eBay for $27!!

Codex praise noted.
I'm really REALLY looking fwd to a complete story in six books of Butcher goodness. I haven't read a complete series in one go since NIGHT ANGEL TRILO at the beginning of this year.

Alas, it was too good be true. After three days of not hearing from the seller, she just now cancelled the transaction because she apparently couldn't find the book. It's all right, though, because I hadn't paid yet, and besides which...
I found a cheaper copy on AbeBooks (not signed) and used the money I saved to also order Innocents Aboard, Endangered Species, Strange Travelers, and Pirate Freedom!

Bought at Galaxy bookshop in Sydney:
Dresden: Storm Front Graphic Novel Pat 1
Feist Riftwar Graphic Novel Part 3 (now tagged Marvel rather than Dabel)
Corvus, by Paul Kearney (sequel to the excellent The Ten Thousand)
Dresden: Side Jobs
Could have spent thousands in that place. Australia's own slightly smaller version of Forbidden Planet. Been going there on every Sydney trip for the last 20-25 years.
Tried to get Retribution Falls by Chris Wooding but they were out. Could have used access to a list I made a little while ago on here with what stuff I was intending to get, but oh well that's why they invented the internet I guess.
Arrived today: my signed copy of Pat's Speculative Horizons.

Pulp Fiction didn't have Chris Woodings' "Retribution Falls".
Neither did Borders in the CBD.
BUT ...
Dymocks - diagonally opposite Borders - DID! I believe it was the only copy in Brisbane.
And now it is mine.
With that, Ihope believe my recent orgy of book buying to have come to an end. Until Stonewielder, of course.
Even Galaxy bookstore in Sydney and Pulp Fiction here didn't have Stonewielder, and they are specialty SFF shops. WTF?

Did some Christmas shopping for my mom today. Bought her these four books:
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Never read it myself, heard a lot of praise about it though.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. Has got glowing reviews as well but supposedly more controversial.
A Game of Thrones by George RR Martin. She's already read all the books in the series; she's actually the one that introduced me to them. Thing is, before I got my own set, I read A Game of Thrones so much that her paperback is missing the cover and the binding is split (I used to treat books like shit back in middle school). Figured it's past time that I buy her a replacement.
The Gunslinger by Stephen King. One of my favorite series, despite a weak 5th and 6th entry as well as some very questionable occurences in the 7th (loved the very end, though). My attempt to get her to read something I really enjoy. Would have bought her Malazan, but it seems like it'd be too much of a leap for her. Someday, though, I'm going to get her the first three books in the series.

Just got my hands on Kit Whitfield's In Great Waters, which I wouldn't normally bother with except Eve's Alexandria have nothing but praise for it. It's a historical fantasy where there are such things as mermaids. I think it's supposed to be better than I made it sound.
Anyone ever read this or Whitfield's other one, Bareback? (That one's about werewolves)

Bought World War Z today on a whim.
An aside:
I saw the most smokin' hot girl reading this book on the subway yesterday. I sat across from her reading STONEWIELDER....and there was another dude about my age 3 seats over who was reading TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT.
It was like a subway nexus of nerd that included this hot model-like girl.
I don't know why I mentioned it....she was just...damned hot.

I'm onto the second book in Brent Weeks' Night Angel Trilogy which will be the first two books I read on my Nook, I also have Neal Stephenson's Diamond Age downloaded as well but that is going to have to wait for after I finish the Night Angel Trilogy and Stoneweilder once Book Despository gets off their ass and get my copy to me.
