To be honest, I've never had any real problems getting hold of a book here. The large Waterstones on Deansgate is pretty comprehensive - their sf section is very good. And believe me, I've bought some fairly esoteric texts from them over the years (Although I did have some problems getting hold of Douglas Hofstader's "Le Ton Beau de Marot", but they got it for me eventually)
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. @Pale - That anthology looks very good, more so as I am a fan of Wolfe and the earlier Turtledove work. One I shall look for, cheers, mate.
PS - Oponn, do you EVER go out! All those books! Have you struck up a deal with Clarkesworld? Or Tremolo?

Fraid so, the Waterstones on Deansgate is probably the best, but that's about all there is. The one in St. Anne's Square that used to be Dillon's used to be good, but not so much anymore.
That's about it, really.
Still, Manchester has many other great qualities that make up for it
