Ordered a hardcopy of Mark Lawrence's ROAD BROTHERS collection (the most recent version with all 14 stories and the fancy art) from Book Depository just to keep my Lawrence shelf up to date with everything he's published thus far (I missed out on it when it came out). Happy to get my hands on it, and I'll be doing a THORNS re-read after I consume it.

"Thanks" for reminding me this exists QT

Dang. Me too.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Latest storybundle is 'World SF'.... VERY interesting / tempting ....

Anyone know any of these books?

Sedia is supposed to be really good, though can't comment personally *pointedly ignores having had The Secret History of Moscow for the past seven years or so in dead tree*

Servant of the Underworld and the other two books in the trilogy I can vouch for and I LOVE them. They're books set in the Aztec Empire (one of my favourite settings) which manage to not just be readable, but actually good. It's an acquiered taste, though. The story is a "Who dunnit?!" where it's barely possible to find out yourself from the info you are given, but the way there is still worth it.

No idea otherwise, came here to ask the same. Since Cassandra Khaw is the only author listed in the "Bonus"-tier whom I have on my "To try"-list and that book is dirt-cheap on it's own, I think I'll passt on that. I may get the first tier for the short story collection and A Small Charred Face, Japanese sci-fi has it's charm. Anyone read/heard of that one?

If you haven't read any of those authors, I'd say the first tier is worth a try.

Just picked up a couple Kindle books from Ben H. Winters, as they look pretty interesting:

Underground Airlines for $3: http://amazon.com/dp/B017RQP41O
The Last Policeman for $2: http://amazon.com/dp/B0076Q1GW2
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
―Gene Wolfe, The Citadel of the Autarch

I made a resolution to buy no games in May.

So this payday was spent on ordering a few books:

"Necessary Evil" by Ian Tregillis- to finally wrap up the Milkweed books
"Ink by Hal Duncan
The first Belle Dame Apocrypha mmpb by Cameron Hurley- this trilo isn't available on Kindle, but the mmpb's being republished this year. I really liked her Mirror Empire stuff, so want to check this out.

Also a bunch of Kindle:
-"Farlander" by Col Buchanan- checking this off my "To Read" list, finally
-"Sins of the Empire" By McLellan- follow up to "Powder Mage" trilo, and it was on sale
-"The Lays of Anuskaya" by Bradley Beillieu- based on Pat's tip-off- it's a huge omnibus for 4 bucks, so why not?

I walked away from an estate sale this morning with a great armful of books (and one cute candle!) — all for 10$!

From top left:
  • McDevitt's The Engines of God
  • Heinlein's A Heinlein Trio (comprising The Puppet Masters, Double Star, The Door Into Summer)
  • The Hugo Winners: Volume 3 (comprising 15 stories from Fritz Leiber, Poul Anderson, Larry Niven, Ursula K. LeGuin, Frederik Pohl, R.A. Lafferty, James Tiptree, Harlan Ellison, and GRRM)
  • Asimov's Foundation Trilogy (I've only read book 1 before)
  • Niven's The Integral Trees
  • Several books from Pratchett that I had already been looking to get:
    • Sourcery
    • Mort
    • Equal Rites
    • Small Gods
    • Lords and Ladies
    • Pyramids

  • That cute wizard candle at the top.

As I mentioned planning elsethread, picked up the TPB of "War in Crimson Embers" , the 3rd volume in Alex Marshall's "Crimson Empire" trilo.

Also picked up my order of "Ink" by Hal Duncan.

Gonna finish "Farlander" tonight, and make these. 2 my commute and at-home reads.

Popped briefly into the used book store looking for old Star Wars books, and nabbed a hardcover copy ion Anthony Ryan's THE WAKING FIRE...which I'd been waiting or PB to buy....and it was only $8. Can't beat that. It's in great shape too!

Went into Chapters today, as it's payday.

They got a bunch of Steph Swainston, so I grabbed "The Year of our War" to check out the series.

I also inquired about my copy of "God's War". They couldn't find it (it doesn't help that for the last like 6 months I haven't gotten a single email confirmation of my online orders, but I never got around to look into it, since so far all my in-store orders arrived intact).

Instead I got another copy of "Ink" , lol. Asked them to send that back.
Whilst I still need to look into this mess, I took the opportunity to grab the one in-store copy of "God's War" by Cameron Hurley. I've become a fan since the Mirror Empire books, and the Belle Damme Apocrypha books aren't available as ebooks on Kindle, so I had to jump on a chance to get the mmpb dead tree copies.

I skimmed them, focusing only on the parts I liked. That's the advantage of dead-tree.

Ah I've read the first two, never did three and four. They don't add anything useful and the second one is pretty much perfect so...
