The first five books in the Craft Sequence by Max Gladstone, 'cause I remember someone raving about them (sorry I forgot who it was) in the Reading at the Moment-thread. For some reason they suddenly turned up dirt cheap on Google Books, and even cheaper in an omnibus. For anyone interested, I checked amazon and the kindle edition/s is/are also heavily discounted.

That was probably me!

The Craft books are amazing. Some of the most original and innovative stuff written in the last decade

Sounds neat, thanks for the heads up.

Any opinions on the Women in SFF Humble Bundle? I know Octavia Butler and Kate Elliott, though not these books in particular, but what about the others? https://www.humblebu...asy-book-bundle

Butler's Parable duology is eerily prescient.

Went to Indigo with a friend last night and she saw a weekender bag that she loved; regular price was $59.50, or $29.50 if you spent $40 on merch. (Don't ask me why spending $40 to save $30 is a deal, but whatever). So she looks at me and says "Were you here to browse or do you think you could spend $40 on books? I'll pay you back for the bag." I mean, come on, I could spend $40 in 40 seconds; challenge accepted.

I ended up getting 3 books: Austin Wright's Nocturnal Animals, Daniel O'Malley's The Rook, and a non-fiction book called How to be a Victorian, and she got her bag.
I've never heard of Daniel O'Malley but the premise of the novel sounds fun, so fingers crossed.

The Forgetting Moon ... i blame QT.

The Paladin Caper ...i blame amazon selling the trilo for $2/book and me being a sucker for a good fantasy caper story.

Be careful using Amazon. My friend got ID stolen and I saw on news that Amazon acknowledged that a scam wave indeed has hit them.

His ID? How would using Amazon lead to having your identity stolen?

It appears people have been hacking Third-Party Sellers: http://www.thedailyb...ere-hacked.html

As far as I can tell, this is potentially disastrous for a seller -- who gets their bank info changed, losing income from subsequent sales and also being used to scam people -- but buyers are just hit for like individual sales, essentially a standard ebay-style ripoff. I dunno how that would allow anyone to start bank accounts in your friend's name, cuz that seems like a more full throttle identity theft thing, but maybe sellers share way more info than buyers.

I'd be very surprised if third-party sellers get much info on buyers. I would assume your payments go to Amazon, then Amazon pays out to the sellers. No?

I know anytime I send an email to a third party with a question via Amazon they route it through a shell email address to protect your id from the third party seller so afaik Amazon don't give them your details at all

Bought my first dead-tree book in 2 months yesterday: C. J. Cherryh's Cloud's Rider for $3. I read the first book (Rider at the Gate) late last year, and it was really good (but of course, it's Cherryh) and this one picks up immediately after that one ends, so I had to have it.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Since I';m supposed to be getting an ok chunk of money as tax return, I picked up Magic Rises , the next Kate Daniels novel,

That being said, the blurb did not particularly impress me. Werewolf/shapeshifter politics does not sound nearly as exciting as prior stuff Kate's been dealing with. But I''ll try to keep and open mind when I eventually get to it.

Had some Audible credits to chew up, so i bought YEAR ZERO by Rob Reid, narrated (supposedly brilliantly) by John Hodgman, and
KINGS OF THE WYLD by Nicholas Eames based on the strong recos elsethread.

Oh man, actually this is one of the best books though. The blurb does it no favours. We aren't just talking Pack Politics on the surface Atlanta Pack....but the global Shifter stuff and a bunch of other elements as well. And you get not one, not two, but three new character introductions here that are amazing. AND this is the road trip book!
