James Abbott - which is a pseudonym of Mark Charan Newton - The Never King. It is said to be in the tradition of David Gemmell, and since I enjoyed his Red Sun tetralogy, I'm looking forward to this one.
And a few days ago, Scott Oden, A Gathering of Ravens. That one has an Orc, well sort of, as main POV. I've read Oden's other books which are sadly not promoted the way they should be. I'd love to read more about the Emir of the Knife (The Lion of Kairo, which was planned as several book series but never sold well enough).

I finally got around to buying Joe Abercrombie's Sharp Ends a few days ago - and had to pick up Nicholas Eames's Kings of the Wyld since it has so many glowing reviews. Two new books to not get to due to children!
Author of Purge of Ashes.
Sayer of "And Nature shall not abide."

So after a small purchase on Prime Day i had a $1.50 credit for amazon.
Wooo! Big Money!!!! i know i know.
But so much has been on sale lately that i figured i would use it on something cheap and whim-purchasey, since amazon has so many books under $3 lately.
Saw a reco for this....THE ATOMIC SEA: AN EPIC FANTASY/SCIENFCE FICTION ADVENTURE by Jack Conner.
then saw it was a further sale to include books 1 and 2, for $2.99. Goodreads and various amazon revs seem to like it, and Conner, who seems to be an insanely prolific writer, has published the series up to part 11 or so so someone must be reading.
Anyone want to tell me that was a waste of perfectly good coffee money?

A boiling poisonous lightning flashing monster filled sea, no less, according to the blurbs.
Rest assured if this is the Best Thing Ever i'll let you all know.
When i get around to reading it.
In a year or three.

Picked up The Great Ordeal (in paperback) and The Unholy Consult (hardback)
Both are technically only to be sold as of the 25th, but some Chapters somewhere broke the rule, so they're available everywhere early.
Aiming to read all 4 "Aspect Emperor" books (including re-reading first 2) by end of summer.

Has anyone heard of The Vorrh by Brian Carling? I just saw it recommended, and looked it up — only to be incredibly surprised at some of the people who've praised this book:
Quote
“The English language has given birth to some great works of unbounded vision and imagination, and here is another one. Is it fantasy? I couldn’t care less. It’s a very sophisticated and subtle exploration of the decadent, the primitive and the mythical. Many books are said to be like nothing else, and aren’t, but Brian Catling’s really is.” —Philip Pullman, The Guardian
“One of the most original works of visionary fiction since Peake or Carpentier. . . . For all its page-turning story, it is a poet’s novel, a serious piece of writing.”— Michael Moorcock, The Guardian
“Catling’s novel reads like a long-lost classic of Decadent or Symbolist literature, with that same sense of timelessness. It’s peculiar, wildly imaginative, unafraid to transgress and get lost, and is unlike anything I’ve ever read.” — Jeff VanderMeer, author of The Southern Reach Trilogy
"A phosphorescent masterpiece. . . . Easily the current century’s first landmark work of fantasy. . . . A brilliant and sustained piece of invention which establishes a benchmark not just for imaginative writing but for the human imagination in itself. . . . Read this book, and marvel." --Alan Moore, author of Watchmen and V for Vendetta
"Brian Catling is simply a genius. His writing is so extraordinary it hurts, it makes me realize how little imagination I have." — Terry Gilliam
“I am glad to have the book as a companion on my own dark quest.” —Tom Waits
"There are not many books that rearrange the molecules of your being, turning your eyes inside out. The Vorrh, this saturnine post-traumatic testament, is one of them. A work of genius." — Iain Sinclair

It's very good, but very weird. Fans of VanderMeer or Mieville should definitely give it a go.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

After sampling it on Kindle (and seeing the recco for the release on io9) I picked up HEX-RATED by Jason Ridley...which seems to be a hard-boiled detective book that takes place in the 70's and features a seedy Hollywood underbelly mingled with magic and the supernatural.
Oh, and the cover is pulpy 70's brilliance!

Picked up The Dark Defiles
Also, because I didn't check this thread, I bought "Magic Breaks" again.... I'll have to exchange that for something else (probably the next book in the series) next weekend

Picked up the PB edition of "War Factory" , Asher's second "Dark inheritance" book.
And last Fri, while I was heading downtown to a party, I picked up a copy of "Dancer's Lament". Because apparently I never bought it before.
