Pre-ordered Ian Tregillis's next, The Mechanical (Alchemy War Bk 1).

Also got books 4 to 9 of Scott Mariani's 'Ben Hope' series for £1.99 each on Kindle.

I haven't pulled the trigger on pre-ordering the Mechanical yet but I know I will (it's been on my audible wish list since I saw it). The setting looks freak'n fascinating.

I'm psyched for Tregellis' new series, but I'll likely wait til it's done and read it all. Loved his MILKWEED TRIPTYCH and his SOMETHING MORE THAN NIGHT sits high in the TRPFH.

I've not got that one as yet. For some reason it hasn't been released on Kindle in the UK (not that that should stop me getting the paperback, of course . . . ).

THE PROVIDENCE OF FIRE by Brian Stavely (2nd Unhewn Throne novel)

The Kindle app can pull books from amazon.com, .uk or .ca.
The actual Kindle can't?

Prepare yourselves, as it's VERY different from his first trilogy.

Apparently Tor is now publishung Charles Stross' "merchant Princes" series in an omnibus trilogy. Grabbed volume 1, "The Bloodline Feud" it contains the first 2 books. Gonna check it out, see if the series is worth my time.

Picked up Glen Cook's Darkwar omnibus and Ian Tregillis' Necessary Evil on the clearance shelf for $2 each yesterday.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Bought the two omnibus sets of The Monarchies of God by Paul Kearney today. I read the first book but never got round to the rest. Looking forward to it now.

Also bought The Cold Commands and The Dark Defiles after noticing them in a bookshop.

I bought Hunter's Run by Martin/Abraham/Dozois and Summer of Night by Dan Simmons at a Goodwill.

Let me know what you think about these. I picked them both up on the clearance rack for a buck or two each on a whim a while back, and haven't gotten around to them yet. (I realize that that description holds for a couple hundred of my books, but still...)

Finished Summer of Night. It was good but not great. It's clear why people seem to compare it to IT, but in all honesty it's much less ambitious and nowhere near as scary. That said, its good guys are all well drawn and they don't do anything horror-movie dumb just to push the plot forward. In the end it actually reminded me a lot more of Super 8: very likable character-wise, rather uneven plot-wise.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts.Bks 1 and 2 sit in the TRPFH.

Someone... Wert i think?... has a lot of love for this series, but my first glance at bk 1 gave me more of a ACCELERANDO than a LAUNDRY FILES vibe, and i like my Stross a little less technical.

Bought Vol. 2 of Brian McClellan's Powder mage trilo, "the Crimson Campaign". Saw it in paperback in a store, and grabed it right away, as who knows when it'll be gone from stores .

Just bought a boat load of Kate Elliott as a birthday gift to myself. She been someone I've been wanting to check out for a while as seems to write about themes that interest me and, from what I read, creates some very unquie and diverse fiction so I ended up buying her first three epic fantasy series and plan on doing a read through and maybe even attempting to formulate a written response (not necessarily a review but something more like a critical reflection) to them.

I have many unread book because I have irrational fear of having books I want to read run out of copies and I can't get them. But generally when I by full series I read through them when I get them. It'll be nice to get back to epic fantasy too, I haven't read a proper epic fantasy since Malazan.
