And today I bought (something I eyeballed yesterday but wanted to research first) CHARMING by Elliott James (Pax Arcana #1)...which is basically the descendant of Prince Charming is a modern day werewolf trained by the modern day equivalent of the Knights Templar to fight otherworldly beasties. And it reads like Kevin Hearne...so yeah, I'm in for at least book 1.

I'm sorry, but this sounds like the plot concept originates from the Magic 8 Ball of ideas that is the progenitor of most terrible novels (the remainder being spawned by mescaline and out-dated bologna sandwiches)
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

It's crazy, but it was entertianing to be honest. I'll definitely read the second one.

Picked up Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson and The Grim Company by Luke Scull, nice and cheap from 2 different stores.

Hopefully these will serve me well when I go out field for a few weeks soon.

Shit it's out? I had no clue.

Honestly neither did I, just wandered into the shops today, saw it, thought "MINE!" and bought it.

Maybe order it with a "pre-order" of Skin Game and they'll still send the other book first anyway. That way it's not cheating.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

in all honesty, it wouldn't be the first time shops in Glasgow have ballsed up and put stuff out on the shelves before release date.

Got Words of Radiance early a while back too.

It's not uncommon for bookstores in the UK to put books out as soon as they get them even if the release date is supposed to be a week later, presumably on the principle that otherwise they're just taking up valuable storage space for no reason.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I get the opposite problem most of the time with Chapters/Indigo. Even on release day no one has bothered to put the new books out on the shelf and I gotta find an employee who will disgruntled-ly go back and find me one.

That said, I DID get both CHANGES and SIDE JOBS two weeks early.

Sadly, the store that USED to always put stuff out before street date, has now been closed. Boo.

So I'm not expecting to see SKIN GAME in stores til release day.

I've found in Chapters that if the book is sitting in the crate in the back somewhere a day or two before release, you can usually find an employee happy to go dig it out for you.

I'm going ebook with SKIN GAME so it's just a matter of leaving my tablet on at midnight. Pretty much moving all my book purchases to ebook and reserving dead tree for special eds, signings and used.

That's a brave step sir. And not easy to do. I commend you.

They're tiny files, man. <1MB usually. The image for the book cover probably takes up half of that.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Didn't find The Crimson Campaign or or Sworn in Steel in the store today, but I did at least find Time of Contempt. So the day was saved at the end.

It's basic math to me... on the one hand is a single slim piece of tech that pretty much takes up less space than an mmpb, has its own light, adjustable font and allows me to carry along every other book in the series, usually searchable, in case i want to look something up and if i happen to finish the book i can grab the next one in literally seconds, vs paper and cardboard that i sometimes have to hold open with one of both hands, requires exterior light, can rip or stain and in the case of hardcovers is inconveniently massive such that i can't conveniently take it anywhere. I find even when i pull a dead tree artifact out of the TRPFH these days i catch myself wishing it was an ebook.

I still have a legendary physical TRP so it's not like i'm giving up on dead tree format, but i've definitely made the switch.

..of course, we'll see how my commitment stands up when the next Malazan book streets... but honestly they take up an entire shelf plus overflow and since i bought the e-book collection i'm occassionally tempted to donate/gift anything that's not signed, hard to find or nostalgic.

How can those things hold so many books in memory? Everyone seems to be putting their entire libraries in them now and adding more to boot.

Yep. And if your ereader or tablet doesn't have much memory, you can jam more onto a computer or cloud and moving the files is generally easy .

Honestly, i totally understand the fondness for dead tree books and why so many will stick with them, and even the argument that with an ebook you don't get a physical thing... but convenience and ease of access and even storage space won me over. I don't really need the entire well worn BELGARIAD sitting on my shelf for the next two decades before i possibly consider nostalgically rereading it when i can stick the ebook file in my 'classic sff' folder until the apocalyptic EMP wipes all hard-drives anywhere and then boy i'll feel silly.
