Is that a new Paulini series or something tied to the (awful) Eragon sequence?

It’s a Sci-fi book he’s written as an adult. Sounded interesting.

Janny Wurts books are rapidly vanishing, so I ordered the 5th "Wars of Light and Shadow" book a few days ago.
My holidays gift this year will probably be a Chapters card, so I'll do some splurging later.

I’m missing books 3, 4, and 5, which I am keeping an eye out for...and I have the rest (not including the unreleased final one obviously). But yeah, they are hard to find these days.

There’s an independent SFF bookstore in my city that I have been ordering from occasionally during COVID to help support them as a small business during this trying time...grabbed the next House War volume I need (HOUSE NAME) and THE SACRED HUNT duology by Michelle West. The order went through and I got a reply asking if I wanted them signed and personalized...totally forgot she works there part time. LOL!
Very sweet gesture and I was happy to have them signed.
So that was a neat little uptick for my day.

Is The Poppy War a Trolls sequel that gets really dark?

Yes.
Way more violent.
The psychedelic drug use is about the same tho, which is to say stellar.

Let me know how this is. I have it as well, and have not started it yet. I've heard it's a fun one though.

Always buy books in series you enjoy when they are initially printed...don't wait because filling holes in an already existing collection can be PRICEY AF.
I have SAILING TO SARANTIUM by GGK in MMPB (Penguin Canada 2010 cover)...but I got LORD OF EMPERORS on an ebook deal (which is how I read it)...so I've never owned LoE for my physical set on my shelf....assuming I'd get it one day.
That day was today and to get the cover that matches my copy of STS, I paid $27CDN with shipping from Thriftbooks in the States (to get the Penguin CANADA version....WTF is that doing in the States anyways?!).
That said, I'm happy to keep collecting GGK in the more recent covers...and this was the only real outlier that was a missing hole in my collection.
So when anyone wonders why I went out and grabbed ALL of Janny Wurts series, or ALL of Michelle West's series and bought them all at once, once I realized I liked them....this is the reason. I don't want to struggle to fill holes later and pay through the nose. Lesson learned.
------
Speaking of deals on new books, I got the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Brian Jacques Redwall books (MOSSFLOWER, MATTIMEO, and MARIEL OF REDWALL) from book outlet.ca which is overflow copies of books, for about $20 CDN for all three. I want to read the series before the Netflix series comes out. I've only read REDWALL and I liked it quite a bit, even though it's for younger readers. Plus the bonus of eventually owning all 22 and my kids can read them when they get old enough.

Oh dang, Redwall. I've read nearly all of them, years ago, and my parents still have the whole collection (minus a few later ones).
Really good fun books.

Sliding scale... i enjoy a LOT of books. Only the ones i REALLY lurv get the dead tree treatment, and typically that when i can get my hands on limited, illustrated, or signed editions.
Also, sometimes a later version of a series or set is just so damn pretty, see by example the latest editions of Neil Gaiman's books.
