Ya actually quite happy Lightbringer is ending and he plans to go back to NA with 1000% more experience as an author. It's gonna rock. I actually liked NA. Popcorn.

Goooood popcorn for the most part. He's also a really nice guy.

I was not aware he was going back to NA... source?

Give me time to dig. I thought this was the plan since around LB 4 was fixing to hit. He was talking about going back to Kylar.

Yes, I recall him saying this too.

Same. Also I don't know if that Durzo Blint novella is in the omnibus or not, but I highly recommend it to those who haven't read it.

Well, I bought into the hype and picked up Gideon the Ninth yesterday. I almost never buy dead tree anymore, let alone brand new, let alone hardcover, let alone for an author I've never read, but the hype seemed real, and when I saw this at Half Price Books it was just sooo pretty I couldn't pass it up. (Well, I did initially, but I came back later!)

Not my pic, but look how pretty:

Oh wow. Never heard of it and have no idea about the hype but dang I am SOLD by that picture alone!

You can't read it in the pic, but the front cover blurb from Charles Stross reads thusly: “Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted gothic palace in space! Decadent nobles vie to serve the deathless emperor! Skeletons!”

I'm liking it so far. More thoughts in the reading thread shortly.

Do! It's a good series (though book 4 isn't quite as good) and the final one comes out next month.

From the way the Night Angel Trilogy ends I'd certainly hope Weeks returned to the series. I can't actually remember the ending but I seem to recall it opening up the world building to suggest there was a whole world of untouched mythology and magic we hadn't even seen yet.

Dang you guys are making me want to read Night Angel again. Never read any of the other bits around it but I remember enjoying the trilogy (though Lightbringer is better).

Ehh, debatable. Lightbringer isn't stabby enough.

Hell, anyone who's actually read my book (all two of you, thanks my fans woooooo) would be able to tell I enjoyed Night Angel a whole great big bunch.

Didn’t even know they weren’t all blacked out.

Just the first editions are. So, all of them, at the moment. Oops, nope.

Nope, not all of them. See my pic above.

Chapters/Indigo had one of those "buy 3, get one Free" events they do sometimes where I spend too much money to either try out new series, or pick up some books I've been keeping my eye on for a while.

In this case, it was a bit of both:

Brief Cases by Butcher
Red Sister by Lawrence, since the third book's out now in hardcover, and by the time I'm ready to complete the trilogy it'll be out in mmpb as well
The Ember Blade the first book in that new series by Wooding- I loved both "The Braided Path" and the Ketty Jay books, so this was a no-brainer
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang- another Asian-inspired fantasy book. Trying something new here.

My recent hardback acquisitions - The Complete Earthsea omnibus by Ursula Le Guin, the first volume of Hainish books (Library of America edition) and Ten Thousand Doors of January which I bought simply because the cover is gorgeous.

Sweet. I kept seeing this one in the store and threw it on my Christmas list because it was so lovely.

Is that the illustrated one? Looks awesome. Never read the last three so it's a good reason to pull the trigger too, hmm.
