Is it too early to talk about this flick?

I love anything Guillermo Del Toro touches, and this sequel looks like it won't disappoint! I love the idea behind the new film as well....

Plot
In February 2007, Mignola described the story he had developed with del Toro as one that focused on folklore and fairy tales, rather than the more pulp elements of the first film.

“ It's not Nazis, machines and mad scientists but the old gods and characters who have been kind of shoved out of our world. I kind of equate it to the whole American Indian situation. The Indians were shoved onto reservations. You had your old, wise Indians who said, "You know, this is the way it is. We can't fight anymore. We just have to accept our fate." You then have your Geronimo character saying, "Or we could just kill the White Man." That's kind of the situation we have in the film. We have our elf characters resigning to the way things are and then there's one saying, "Or we could take the world back." The main difference is - what if the Indians had a nuclear warhead? The elves have their equivalent of the weapon that is too terrible to use. What if this guy decided to use it?"

Yeah, how friggin awesome...not to mention good for us fantasy buffs. I am already quite excited about this one.

Yeah I enjoyed the first movie, thought it should have had more action though...

I have been wondering when the 2nd one would be comming out... its about time...

I would love to see this movie in theaters but i am not as hyped about it as say Bat Man or Iron Man...

Have you seen the trailer? It looks insane. Huge monsters coming out of the streets and such. Hellboy is in for a beating in this one.

first one was good.. this one seems to be a big divergence from the first one though, more inline with xmen and the fantastic 4 movies, which isnt what hellboy was about. we'll see

I figured the hellboy movies for yet another comic based head-into-a-brick-wall mental-retardation-inducing action director's mind-shit , but they are actually good??

They looked half cool effects wise, but do they actually have interesting stories?

Ps I did see the HBII trailer, it does look fairly insane.

The first Hellboy movie made a fan out of me... I like how the tone is somewhat Lovecraftian (if less tragic). I went out and bought a few collections of the comic run, and I can tell you that it is well worth the money spent.

Really looking forward to this second flick. Del Toro is a genius of course - I saw Pan's Labyrinth recently and loved it too.

Short answer: yes. I gave it four out of five stars on Netflix. Five's for ultimate classics, so that's a pretty high rating.

Entertaining, yet smart.

Cool. I'll def. check out Hellboy then. Where id you pick up whole runs of the comic?

Man, you could substitute that wierd no-eyes monster with eyes on his hands thing for a Fade in Wheel of Time. That thing was creepy as hell and its the first thing that pops into my head every time a fade is mentioned in WoT.

entertaining and smart is very hard to do with that type of movie (see my comment 2 or 3 posts back). The second I saw Hellboy advertised I just thought "hulk, daredevil, blah blah dumb comic movies I hate"...but good to know at least one of the genre stands out. I really don't like many of the other movie adaptations except batman.

Yeah... that creepy dude was awesome. :) Nice link to the Fade... I hadn't thought of that.

You can get the Hellboy collections on Amazon.com - there are 7 (or more) volumes, starting with "Seeds of Destruction" available here

The Hulk is a genuinely good movie. It does not deserve to be lumped in with Daredevil. I honestly have no idea why people hate it.

its extremely well cast(deltorro got exactly who he wanted to play hellboy, which is a perfectly cast role), hellboy is kind of meant to be tongue in cheek and it accomplishes that, and the execution and story are very good.

i think the xmen movies were very well done and hellboy is in that class of comic book flicks, not in the "lets make money off a few pretty faces and an old comic franchise" class

You see, but Mike Mignola who created and writes HellBoy, wrote this screenplay, and is as fully involved with production as he was in the first one with him and Guillermo working hand in hand....so I figure HE decides what Hellboy is about...

:)

Also, if it is the group of fighters dynamic you are talking about....then the Hellboy series IS about that. The BRPD has always been a big part of the series, so I'm not sure what it is you mean...

Also, as an interesting sidenote. Neil Gaiman spent a number of days on the set of this film learning directing techniques from De Toro for his upcoming first time stint as a director when he directs his own screenplay in "Death & Me" which is based on his Sandman graphic novel "Death: The High Cost of Living".

i'm talking about the epic/dramatic comicbook movie, not group dynamic.

rather than a rough and tumble, tongue in cheek approach, it's going to a more serious approach

Hmmm, I don't see that actually, at least in the trailer. I still think it feels like the first one which also didn't feel like a comicbook movie.....at least not to me.

I want to see this. The first one surprised me with how good it was.

It's good. I can't decide if I think it's better or worse than the first one. It basically feels like more of the same.

Perhaps there was a bit too much lovey dovey stuff in it, but it was a big part of the first one so I guess they were just sticking to the formula.

I really loved the prince. I've rewatched it a couple of times and I'm actually surprised by the feeling you get when you finish it. I seriously cannot decide who the bad guys are. The ending is as tragic as it could get.

I can deal with more of the same. I'm curious about the mechanics of the love story, the physical side of it. HB is a big guy...

[Insert 'bit of a stretch' joke here]
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Think she goes all firey when she orgasms?

Besides, he's not really taller than a normal guy, he just has more rock-muscle. does he have more cock-muscle? I don't want to know, and shame on you RLY for wondering.

Go sing 'I feel pretty' on a bridge while blocking traffic, because you have issues!

Anyway, the angel-demon thing that healed him... will there be a hellboy 3 when he goes apeshit when Ape dies?
