Yup. She kicks one of them through a wall and then slices them up good while Quick or was it Paran? make their escape.

The funny bit is later when Cot comes in and the hounds are pissed because they think he did it.

Shadowthrone too. I assumed you meant that event, I just needed to clarify you weren't talking about another place and time, kicking the hounds didn't strike remembrance in my mind.

I thought that they were pissed not because they thought that he did it. But because he was directly responsible for Apsalar's becoming a shadow dancer, and kicking the shit out of them....Still funny though
She did kick one of them through a wall. It was the lead dog the one that the horse faced guy thought was going to kill him.

That's crazy, An ascendant slender girl kicks a huge ascendant hound through a wall. Apt's observation starts to gather believability about the physics issue.

Although in that case it could be a simple transfer of motion. Rather that the lead hound was in full flight and when Apsalar kicked him the combined motion of both his speed and apsalar's kick is what made him go through the wall. Because after that she wasn't able to put any of the other dogs through walls. Instead she inflicted cuts and kicks on them.

Oh my, why do guys always have to explain stuff when it's a girl that does unbelievable things... Never mind the guy with a warren in his sword. That totally doesn't need an explanation. Law of physics my ass...

Actually, no joke, there IS a ref to 'Kulp the Elder' in a TB chapter opener iirc, but i can't find it at the moment.

As for Apsalar, the entire point is that she has moved beyond what she was when Cotillion possessed her.

I think the point has been missed.

We were not questioning and explaining events because of a girl's involvement. We were merely seeking to comprehend how a person of slender build could kick a hound of perhaps 10 times their weight through a wall. If it was "slender assassin joe", who weighs a tenth of the hounds weight, we would also be in the same state of exclamation or at least I would be. This hound is as big as a human being, 1.5 metres at least, brooding from speculation. A dog of this magnitude would not only be incredibly, stupidly heavily but very fearsome.

I'm more surprised than anything Apsalar even kicked the hound, I've not seen any other bravery of this nature in the books. Anomander Rake wouldn't have faced the Hounds and kicked them, it really does show Apsalar's power, confidence and resourcefulness.

Interestingly if we mix Apt's and Abyss' comments we find an odd situation occuring:

Aptorian;245432 said:

Aps is a clone of Cotillions power and talent, but she doesn't have all his experience. That is where the difference would lie.

Abyss;246005 said:

This would insinuate that Apsalar's experience is the only reason for her continuation of power. Her capabilities have not increased, it is but her experience. I would have thought experience was one of the things that was least hindered by the possession, Apsalar has perfect knowledge of assassination through Dancer's memories, who needs experience when you have exact, duplicated knowledge.

With these posts, and my thoughts, in mind I can only deduct that if Apsalar is a clone of Cotillion's power and talent and her experience is not an obstacle then this problem no longer makes sense with only these factors.

Personally I think Cotillion's godhood and weapons give him the edge over Apsalar. I truly hope we do not live to see the day Apsalar surpasses Cotillion in the assassin art, although it's probably inevitable considering Apsalar is young and still has potential to learn more technique.

you forget, with ascendants its all about willpower. Apsalar clearly just wanted it more. She probably even muttered "Watch this!" or a synonym-therof just before she did it...

Yeah she is young...but isn't Cotillion presumably immortal now? I think Cotillion has the edge simply because of experience....but who knows...maybe Apsalar has become something....bigger....than him?

We'd probably have to see them toe to toe to get the answer

No, we don't know who's more powerful. Cotillion might have started it, but once the stone is rolling down the hill, you can't tell it's destination, except it's going down...

Apsalar never really earned her prowess, she sucks

Cottillion lived a life of violence and struggle and honed his skills through out it as dancer and eventually ascended at some point because of it.

Apsalar was a fisher girl who got mind possessed for a few months by a god....and thats it... thats all she is....

people rail against Karsa for being to powerful...he was raised a warrior.. and is a giant...

But here you got a fisher girl who has become a being able to woop ascendant ass... she is the closest thing to "farm boy is the chosen one cliché" SE has....

But I guess I shall allow it because she has big boobs....

~Not that I have anything against her, she is still a well created character, and fun to read.

I strongly dislike how we are never given an indication of how Cotillion possessed Apsalar. It must have been pretty powerful magic else everyone would be creating clones of themselves, she was only possessed for a couple of months like Zanth said, think how many times Rake if he so had the desire could do this. This would lead to an unstoppable army of Rake's, although presumably there are other difficulties which go along with producing endless clone supplies of yourself.

I just dislike how someone possessed could get an exact duplication of the other person's skills and talent, maybe a bleeding of power which after centuries could make them almost exacts but months...

- Dancer, dislikes to think about it.

I think it is explained somewhat like this in the series:

Dancer went with his soul inside Apsalars body (and thus possessed her). From that point on Dancer basically lived his life into Apsalar's body, after a while he leaves her body again, and the only thing that Apsalar remembers are memories. Memories of things Dancer was thinking about when he was inside her body, of how to react on certain moves in a fight,...

So apsalar got her skills from memories created by Dancer inside her body (call it reflexes her body learned while it was possessed, but off course didn't unlearn when he left her body)

What kind of magic is it that makes you put your soul inside someone else's body? I don't know, but maybe QB could tell us some more about... having some experience with it and all ;) (so yes, Apsalar got her martial arts the exact same way as QB got his multiple warrens, so if you don't like Apsalar for that, don't like QB either  )

There's a difference between a soulshift and a possesion.

One difference is QB actually had some real skills before he played around with souls. He was powerful and conniving enough to work with Dancer and Kellanved to eliminate an important cult on seven cities.

well, a possession imo is really only a soulshift from a god into a human body :s

And @Dancer: yes, QB did idd have some skill too... but so did Apsalar really. Sure, Apsalar didn't have any martial skill, but she had fishing skills... so a skill nonetheless.
Besides, I was more responding on the how it was possible apsalar got the skills that quick.
