That sounds likely.. ST was mad at having been outsmarted a second time. I think in regard to his power increase, he's probably just learning how to access all the power within... Beak was a natural High Mage, and could access many warrens easily. QB might not know the extent of his own powers, as he absorbed rather than learned them. As he learns he gets more powerful.

I believe it was stated somewhere, the part where they describe the hunt after Qb (and the other mages) in Raraku by the BB, with Kalam being a guide, who is actually working with QB. Anyways, it's stated there QB was the weakest mage of all those who were running, and if I'm not wrong they also said QB wasn't a strong mage to start with anyways.
The fact that ST recognized him had to do with QB's intelligence (the betrayal and stuff was all about intelligence I believe) and I believe one can rise high in the ranks without using straightforward power... So I believe QB did most of his stuff before he got all those souls by means of intelligence.

I think you should remember that in the fifteen years or so since raraku, QB was also thought of as a midling mage, squad level at best.

Think of also that Quick was in a cadre defending the (last?) holy... seven cities guy... what were they called again? He wasn't average even back then.

The time is a bit iffy for me but, before he became a part of the cadre of Y'ghatan, he was also a part of the shadow cult, high level enough to assist Dancer in the unraveling of other cults.

Quick was never just a low level.

meh.. to add somehting slightly constructive--he's a d'ivers Enka'ral.
And, we had a poll on his soletaken form a while back....
QB had powers even as a kid-recall Torhaval's Wolf-chasing escapades. Makes me think he had the same sprit magic as Bottle when he was a kid. then he went into the Rashan/meanas/SHADOW priesthood and got his Warren magic. Then there was Raraku and his powering up happened there.
EDIT: as for his after-Iccy nastyness syndrome--we can a lways blame the presence of the Eres'al....

Quick Ben was a high priest, but only a middling mage. He just had unique skills and high iq.
Soletaken second guessing is so confusing!
*veers into... something... lmao*

I proclaim that until we know better he is a human with a human soletaken form!
:p :p
Now another crazy theory. As we all know Quick Ben has 12 souls. Is ascension based on body and soul or can a soul ascend without a body? So could all twelve souls in QB ascend individually?

I don't think QB is ascending in any way at all, but I believe ascension can be gained individualy... but it doesn't really matter since not too many people have more then 1 soul inside them, and QB isn't ascending I believe :p

lol... once he dies, maybe....but how likely is that?

on a side note: would having 12 souls give him a longer lifespan?

Aren't all the Bridgeburners a lot older than what they look because of Raraku?

And don't mages live a long time? Didn't Tattersail say she was over 200 in GotM?

Tattersail was abot 300 in GotM--she was around 100 when Mok died, and Kellanved took over Malaz Island (she was his lover).
But, of course, that COULD have been a GotMism... Tay is so long-lived b/c of Deadhouse, everyone else is really unknown...
We do know that QB's not that old, since his normal, non-mage older sister is still around....

Ah I see. Thanks for the info.

But doesn't Fiddler remark how all the Bridgeburners look younger than they are?

Some quotes from MoI, the dessert chase scene. Might help peopel out a bit.

MoI, paperback, UK taken from pages between 356 and 362.
Qbens souls:
1) Himself Adaephon Ben Delat- Meanas
2) Kebharla- More scholar than mage, Warren not stated.
3) Ranishe- High Meanas
4) Keluger- Septime priest of D'riss
5) Narkal- Warrior mage, sworn to Fener and aspirant to Mortal Sword
6) Ullan- SOLETAKEN priestess of Soliel
7) Set'alahd Crool- Jhag half-blood, blessing of unknown god on sword
8) Etra- Rashan
9) Birith'erah- Serc
10) Gellid- Witch of Tennes warren

When asked by WJ about the clamour the 11 souls make in him, Ben answers:
" The clamour has...subsided somewhat. Even the ghost of a life is better than Hood's embrace, Commander. We achieved a...balance, you could say"

So...the Soletaken is accounted for annyone who missed it the first time. 2 souls ARE unaccounted for though. I'm sure someone stated what the warrens are of those souls in another post of the forum but I forget. Though I doubt who the owners of said warens were revealed.
And if anyone suggest that Qben can now veer into a can of worms I will personally feed him/her to the rabid piranhas swimming in the mote surrounding Abyss's sanctuary.
