bidithal is a character who could maybe have moved to greyer areas if we saw how he used the fragments power, myself i really dont have much hope he would have done anything useful. would have been a more rhulad-esque demented twisting of power situation.
if you really try you can see some lighter patches on his soul, but overall its a black one.
There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.

no, bidithal must have been convinced he actually needed to do that to the children for some reason (as all paedophiles do), and it's the believing in the reason that would make bidithal greyish.

Unlike Karsa, who just raped to rape... Karsa simply wanted to humiliate the 'children' he raped by making them pregnant and so on... not a very noble reason idd; whereas Bidithal might have had a better reason (sure, the raping of children might have had nothing to do with that noble reason, but it would've in Bidithal's mind)

I'm not saying it can ever be a good thing to rape children (or anyone for that matter) but I believe motivation to do so can change a big deal in the amount of how bad it actually is (ranging from vey bad to incredibly bad)

Karsa=total c**t who has accepted he made mistakes, I think, so has been somewhat redeemed.

Bidithal could never have been redeemed cus of his infallible self belief.

well, I kind of believe SE has a shocker in store for us... but the destroying of magic would be rather possible too (allthough many fantasy-readers wouldn't like that).

It's probably not useful for us to actually start a discussion about how the series will end... We'd probably be miles off anyways :p

Mallick Rel has it coming. My prediction is that Quick Ben will pwn him in some diabolical fashion. Remember in Bonehunters when Rel said that Quick Ben wasn't worth much, and was too proud of his status as high mage to fight on Malaz? Quick Ben is going to exact retribution for a comment he isn't even aware of.

Anywho....don't be so sure guys...I think a lot of the quote "bad guys" are not going to get "owned". It isn't SE's style

mmmm, trulls murderer, bidithal, silgar, karos invictad, triban gnol, tanal yathvanar, turban orr, pearl (he's bad cuz he poisoned kalam, but he got his, although i do shed a tear for lostara), gerrun ebberict, hairlock, hannan mosag... just to name a few.
though some of these guys are "bad guys" in the greyest sense.

Trull's Murderer--driven by Karos' rethoric + belief that he was saving the Letherii race
Bidithal--driven by desire to "purify" the Rashan Cult.
Karos--he's a "meant justify the ends" type of person, but I do believe he came to believe some of his own BS and got driven by it
Tanal--he actually had a "turnaround moment", where he was going to free Janath and run away with her, only to find her gone (cuz Mael rescued her)--it was a really nice touch by SE, imho
Triban Gnol--he didn't believe the Empire would last under Ezgara, hence he did what he though was necessary to preserve it.
Turban Orr (that's the guy from Darujhistan, if I'm not mistaken?)--he felt the city had no chance, so he did what he felt was necessary
Pearl--this one always gets to me--blamed Tavore for sending lostara off to die, and did what he did b/c of that
Gerrun Ebberict--saw himself as "Vigilante who removed the worst scum from the society"
hairlock--don't know enough bout him, Chaos power made him insane
Hannan Mosag--he was going to use CG to preserve the Edur in isolation....

everyone has their motivations, and they fully believe themselves to be correct and justified--that' what makes SE's works so damn awesome and realistic...
