I'm about 1/2 way thorugh book 4 and its great. Definitely my favourite so far.

I've heard all the doom and gloom about the mid-later books being shitty and boring, so don't post that.

Is there much to actually look forward to in the later books that might make me want to finish this series? Its a reasonably cool story and I'd like to see the ending, but with the books clocking in at about 1k pages each, I'm wondering if its worth it.

Oh yeah... you're good to go till book 6 methinks.

Book 4 is still strong... in fact things stay strong all the way until Chapter 55 in Book 6... that one has a major battle that is my personal favorite AWESOME moment in the series. Many would agree.

Enjoy chap. These books are what got me started in the first place. Read and think about them if you can completely seperately to reviews or what you have heard or read before and you will love them.

Mat is my fave character. Good books.
"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

I've heard mat is one of the things that makes the later books worth it. He's somewhat of a mystery in the earlier books. Like you know he's kind of a shithead, but you dont' understand much of his motivations.

I am also wondering what happens to the white tower, because Min predicted that all the aes sedai would get severely fncked up. I just hope to hell that Siuan Sanche gets pwnd because she's the most irritating female character in the whole series. Stupid fishing analogies to everything.

Am looking forward to some untainted saidin pwn4g3 and the battles vs. the various forsaken. I forget how many are toast now (I think 2 or 3). Looking forward to the conclusion of the Seanchan arc too.

I was LoLing all over that one. Not to sound overly patronizing, but you have so many surprises (good and bad) lined up for ya on all that emboldened stuff... Enjoy!

And now I feel a hankering for a reread of WOT :)

I'm glad there is still someone else other than me that is only near the beginning of the series as well. I am only on the 3rd book, and yeah, I agree they are still quite good!

I liked all of them. I think there's awesome stuff in every book. Yes, even Crossroads of Twilight...

Given that you have ten books out there, even the slower ones read ok in the bigger context. A lot of the frustration people voice has to do with waiting three years or so for a book(s) in which the story continues but very little happens. As you're starting with 10 out there, you don't have this problem - until you finish and have to wait for the last book, due in about 2 yrs or so.

I'd say keep going - lots of coolness ahead.

- Abyss, wants his own set of immortal sworn enemies.

This might be why I didn't have a problem with those books at all - the first book I had to wait for was Crossroads of Twilight, and I only had to wait about a year for it. It was a cliffhanger, and I appreciated the suspension of the events of the cleansing in other areas during the first third or so of the book.

But there are 12 books already published, including the prequel...

The prequel is appalling though, at least in novel form. Read the comic book version or the original short story in Legends, but stay clear of the full novel. 'Filler' doesn't even begin to cover it. And definitely don't read it before the other books as it does spoil a fair bit from later on.

I really enjoyed the prequel. I read it first in Legends, but I like the novel version better, because it actually tells a good bit about Siuan and Moiraine when they were Accepted, and it takes you through the test for Aes Sedai the same way we were taken through Egwene's and Nynaeve's Accepted tests. You actually get to see Gitara's Foretelling about Rand, and Moiraine's thoughts on her Uncle Laman, and the Hall trying to put Moiraine on the Sun Throne. I really don't see how "appalling" could possibly apply, unless the visit to the seamstress bowled you over...

I found the prequel decent...after Lord of Chaos...and some of A Crown of Swords...i thought the series dipped...don't get me wrong...there were good parts in each book...but as a whole the series for me started to go downhill after book 7.

Now is it still a very good series? Yes...and it is so sad he didn't live to finish it. People used to joke about how he would die before he could finish it...because he took so long between books...and now that it actually happened it is just awful.

yeah, that sucks. I hope all the promises of "copious notes" and "telling family members whats gonna happen" are actually true, because then we can be assured at least that the major plot items happen, even if it isn't written in quite the same way.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but is this actually the first time a series with a relatively definitive end in sight could not be finished by its original author for reasons of death?

(ie: Not the Bourne books, which Ludlum finished and the publisher ressurected for $$ as opposed to any real reason)

- Abyss, can't quite belive this has never happened...

It happened last year. David Gemmel died before finishing the third and final installment in his Troy trilogy. His wife finished it from his notes

Let all get our prayer mats out and make sure we don't have GRRM dieing before the end of ASOIAF
