A bunch of the BwB (the GRRM fan group) are at the World Fantasy Convention in Saratoga, New York State, this weekend. A ton of authors are there: GRRM, Steven Erikson, Ian Cameron Esslemont, Guy Gavriel Kay, Patrick Rothfuss, Scott Lynch and Hal Duncan, just to mention a few.

Sounds like Steve and ICE dropped by the BwB Party from this report:

Quote

I spent about twenty minutes in a three-person conversation with Ian Esslemont and Steven Erikson about (among other topics) how Erikson's works are received among our forum members (love them or hate them, little middle ground). Erikson was especially pleased to hear that - though he pointed out that he couldn't understand how anyone could be neutral about his books. Both stayed at the party well over an hour, leaving just before GRRM arrived.

Seems a shame that Steven and GRRM didn't meet, as they are (probably) the two most critically-acclaimed epic fantasy authors around at the moment (add GGK and Scott Bakker to the mix to get some pure awesomeness, but GGK wasn't there at the time and Bakker didn't go).

Will keep an eye out for any further reports of the Malazan contingent's activities.

Wow, that reads like every Fantasy-Readers dream come true. Add to that Scott Bakker and it'd have been perfect. Man, I am so jealous...

And if you love GRRM's writing, how can you hate SE's? That is beyond me...

Sounds like a good event.

Wish I lived around there, quite naturally.

Anyone that could have gone and didn't deserves to be kicked in the head.

the NE USA has some of the best cons* - the annual Boskone sounds like it's very well attended, and then there is comicon in NYC and a couple others. There is also an annual con in DC that is well attended - SE was at that one too.

the World Fantasy Con moves around - I think next year is Denver and Calgary the year after that.

* I don't live in the NE USA and haven't been to any of these cons - these are just my impressions from following a number of blogs and the parties of the BWB.

The big news out of the con was that Toll the Hounds will get a simultaneous US/UK release.

I should just face it, Reaper's Gale was the high point for me on this forum :p Getting it earlier than even the earliest release date and far before the rest of the world.

I am astounded the earth didn't buckle with the combined force of the awesome concentrated in such a small space.

- Abyss, sadly, was off saving the world at the time.
