Upset is something women get. Manly Jaghuts become irritated and sometimes genocidal.

Aww thats not fair. Jaghut were never really genocidal... they were tyrannical, but were always the victims when it came to pogroms/ genocide.

Also the plural for Jaghut is Jaghut.

I opt for Oponn

Duiker was the one who arranged for Heboric to escape from the Tanno Hills. Baudin was needed to lead the escape; Felisin was dragged along. Baudin died protecting Felisisn and Heboric. Felisin is now possessed by a Goddess and is planning to destroy her sister and the accompany army. Heboric, a born-again Boar, is looking, without seeing, the man who helped him escape and started the chain of events.
It is the type of irony Oponn loves

Oponn strikes me as more of the smug satisfaction type, as opposed to the chuckling or laughing god. Shadowthrone definitely qualifies, though I think in the long-term thematic view it is also likely the CG.

Hah! A suggestion not before suggested! Yet do I fully believe it myself? Nah. Not really, but it's fun suggesting.
Fener was also mentioned after. Heboric thought about Fener stripping his sight away. But I really can't imagine Fener laugh:p

The only God I could imagine laughing, and at someting like this, would be Shadowthrone. He seems a guy with humour lol
Possibly Coltaine... Wasn't he at the brink of ascending..? Or perhaps his soul was trapped inside those darned crows... *sighs* I think I need to re-read the book! lol My memory is failing:(

Thanks for filling the holes in my memory:p
In that case it seems Shadowthrone, mocking the dead, unrecognizeable historian as one of the Empress' failures is most likely the one...

The crippled god is still the most likely source in my opinion.

Oh... I never considered him lol as he's not mentioned anywhere in the book... But now that you mention him... Yeah, sounds likely.

Without spoilerising, we can safely rule out Hood due to later events. I cant see the CG being that interested in Duiker, which would leave ST as the most likely candidate, and who I take it to be. Dont forget, ST knew Duiker, and (here comes a spoiler so dont read unless you've got to RG):

It's tempting to make this a poll... lol
But yeah, after some thinking ST seems the most likely one.

I would think that it would come down to what the god was laughing at. If it's laughing at the series of events that ended with the slaughter of the Malazans, then I would say that Shadowthrone would probably get a chuckle out of it. I would rule out Hood, just because he is not one to laugh at anything of the sort. He (from what I've seen) takes his job serously, and would most certainly not be laughing at the inability to take Dukier's soul.

Now if the god is laughing at Heboric's inability to see his friend spiked to a tree I would lean more toward Oppon. Dukier was loyal to Dancer and Kel so I don't think that Shadowthrone would find much humor in seeing Dukier pinned to a tree...unless he was laughing at the fact that he wasn't dead.

If Heboric heard a God laugh, I suppose so did Stormy when he looked for Duiker. None of them could sense him because his soul was safe in the "bottle". I think it was ST, laughing at the awkwardness of the situation. He had both reason to laugh, given his wonderful humour, and he had reason to watch the scene. Well, mostly any God had reason to watch the scene, but whatever lol
Hood knows, I would've laughed as well! I mean, living forever as an Ascendant sounds little fun! You've gotta enjoy those few moments of fun! lol

And I cannot imagine Oppon laughing... Not at that, anyway. And how Oppon could laugh as one God must be a mystery... Perhaps the male twin... But I cannot say I believe it was really Oppon.
No, I go for ST.

I think it was Hood because he could be laughing for two reasons. The first is that he was happy for all the man who have died during Coltaine? s march and at Aren. The second is that he was amused becuse there were many people that shouldn' t have died but are now croosing the gates of his domain.

This does not exactly prove Mr Toblerone is correct, but I like to think it strenghtens the connection.
Be warned, big Toll the Hounds spoilers in here.

considered their scholarly will.
He lowered his head
and with anguish he said,
"But how will we teach them to kill?"
