Dear Mr. Erikson:

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HURRY UP! DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU BEFORE YOU FINISH BOOK 10!

Thank you.

I wouldn't say Jordan introduced me to fantasy, but certainly opened up the genre for me. I remain a fan, and am very sad for his family. I am glad that he's not suffering anymore, as it sounded like a horrible disease.

I don't care to criticize the series, so I won't comment about all that. Suffice it to say that I hope they do him justice in publishing the conclusion to the series.

It would be mildly amusing if book ten was never finished :D

Although ultimately tiring a little of his series (it was too overblown and filled with needless details and pointless characters) I still regard him as one of the true greats of the genre.
The first five books or so of the WOT really grabbed me and as a hopeful writer of the future I cannot deny some influences he has over me.
It s a pity he dragged out his story so as otherwise they would stand more proudly next to MBotF anf ASoIaF.

Still, Gemmell last year (whose last book I am reading now) and Jordan this year.

Trully depressing. The genre is weaker for their passing.

RIP Robert Jordan

The one I worry about is George RR Martin. He's a hefty guy, and he's no spring chicken. I met him at a book signing and he said during his talk that he doesn't really have any notes or anything to leave for anyone, so he concluded, "If I die, you're shit out of luck."

If THAT series was left unconcluded, I'd probably shave my head and become a monk. Same for Erikson. Jordan....well, I haven't read his last 2 so I guess I'm not to worried about how the last part of the story is produced.

But as others said, his writing entertained me through the first 6 books, and my own imagination has in some way been shaped by him.

@ChrisW, amphibian is entitled to his own opinions, and nothing of what he said warrants editing or deletion. If it bothers you so much, put his posts on ignore. Although, should you "abuse the fuck" out of him, I assure you actions will be taken against you.

Well if you are going to allow someone to laugh about someones death in what basically should be a condolence thread than you can take your forum and shove it up your arse fuck tard. Even the Bloody aSoIaF forum mods haven't allowed those types of posts and they are a much bigger bunch of critics.

Once you finish banning me make sure you delete both my posts in this thread as they shouldn't be in it either. Ya think you can get that right moron?

I agree, not with your words, but with the gist.

This is a thread to pay condolences, not to laugh at someones misfortune.

Ditto.

If we're all about allowing whatever language we want here because we're all apparently mature enough to take it, then I suggest Amph's post could be seen as being as inflammatory as ChrisWs', if more broadly directed.

The guy is dead, dancing on his grave and laughing at his and his fans' misfortune is just dirty pool. If you permit the first post - which I think constitutes "abuse" if not specifically directed - then you have to allow ChrisWs' ... rant. :D

Boy, I'm rather glad you're no longer an admin on these boards yourself, seems your actual personality has come through quite well finally.

The fact that it's a condolence thread means little, honestly. There have been plenty of these such threads before, whether it be for an author or some other known figure. And many times, there have been replies of a "worse" nature than amphibian's. Have we deleted those? No. Have people been as vulgar and rude about it as you, demanding deletion? Not that I recall. Nor do I care what happens on the ASoiaF boards, they can enforce whatever rules they want. Oh, and looking at amp's post, as far as I'm concerned he's making a jibe about WoT, not RJ's dying.

I'm thinking the only reason you're making such a fuss is because RJ is one of your favourite authors. Had this thread been about most anyone else, I don't think you would care that much, or even post like you did. I might even have taken you seriously had you not acted like a child about the whole thing.

Since you so kindly asked though, I'll be more than happy to ban you. :D

EDIT: Should anyone not agree with my decision, PM another admin. I believe most of them have read this thread though, and obviously have decided to leave the post as well.

I think the WoT is irrelevant here - what matters is that somebody died, who was - reportedly - a good person. I would have liked him to be able to finally wrap things up, I would probably have bought the last book, after skipping from book 9 on. Ah well, shit happens. I hope the people who complete his work will do it as he would have wanted it, even if I would like to have seen a bit speedier story telling.

@ChrisW: relax dude. The WoT got a bit out of hand. So be it. We all had our laugh and our say about the matter.

I really loved WoT. the first 5 books were some of the best reading at the time. Sadly I lost interest as the story expanded past my ability to remember all the names over the two to three years between books. I never read the last one (just seen it at the dollar store and didn't buy it). but that said, RJ was still a great writer and his loss is great to our realm of Sci-fi fantasy.

I wonder how much rep CW would have left if it was possible to neg-rep him when he's banned.

Why stop at deleting his posts, why not just shove his account up where he himself so politely suggests things be shoved up.

Rudest post I've ever seen from a regular... but of course I'm also from the time after Snake and NIKO :D

Many years ago I saw in the "Best Sellers" section of the News a new name added to the list, Robert Jordan. He went from off the list to first in a week. Had to read his book, "Lord of Chaos". Confusing!. A few years later I read "The Eye of the World". I was hooked. Read and reread his books many times. He was a great fantasy writer and he will be sorely missed.

Take the admin stuff somewhere else, please.

It's a terrible shame:( Before they got edited to hell, WoT were wonderful books, he was a great writer.

WoT was what got me hooked on the fantasy genre. Perhaps not the greatest books in the world, but RJ definitely had his own style. I knew this was coming for over a year now, but it's still really sad :D

considered their scholarly will.
He lowered his head
and with anguish he said,
