Apt, the Errant is a douche bag and you know it. I want him chopped into little pieces and served on a plate. Scratch that - not a plate - just disposed of silently.

- Gem, will soon start a war against anyone that doesn't hate the Errant. No, really.

How close did you read his parts in RG? A large part of the story actually hinged on his presence and his view on the developing convergence.

I thought he was one of the best POVs in the story. He's not just some noble god interested in fighting the good fight but he's not some disenchanted coldhearted ascendant either. He's chaotic neutral if you will.

I dislike some of his actions, like Trulls death and his revival of Rhulad, but that's his way, he's not on anyones side. He plays his own game and unlike some of the ascendants, he has a more believable immortal view on the ages and human struggle.

I hope he kills Paran *puts on flamerepellant*

Paran has and army. The Errant doesn't.
Paran's medium is active over most of the planet. The Errant's is not. (except maybe a bit of beast hold)
Paran has Shadow hound in his blood. The Errant does not.
I like Paran. The Errant is a dick.

Personally I'm backing Paran.
Flying Monkeys definitely win.

What if Gnol isn't actually the Errant's son? That would explain the lack of powers.

One thing I know from years of reading books is that consorts who knock up the queen tend to die or disappear. It's entirely possible that Gnol's mom just hated her husband enough to lie to her son.

Armies aren't much use against a god.
The Errant now has an active cult following again. FWs machinations most likely reverberated all across the lands that once knew worship of the Errrant.
The Errants trick with the Tiles had unforseen consequences. The houses may have come to Lether but the Holds may now be coming to the new world.
The Errant was alive and kicking when the deragoth was roaming free, what's a shadowhound half breed to him.
And most importantly Paran has no experience, he's a rookie on the Errant turf.

Apt, wonder where you go to found a "We love the Errant" fraternity.

Ah its been forever since I properly read RG, anyone got some good pages that illustrate well the Errants opinions/rolls, his activity recently and in the past?

Trotts, Abyss has brought in a new age of non-signatures!!!

In a bad way.

BS. He is coldhearted. In fact, he has to be to do what he does. And how can he be both chaotic and neutral? Make up your mind there, buddy.

Exactly. He's completely selfish. He only cares about his own ass. It's ascendants like that him that give immortals a bad name.
He didn't kill Trull for some other reason than to have his fill of his own game. Every action he has taken has been completely repulsive and horrific.

Points aside, if I try to pinpoint why I hate the Errant so much...
I was annoyed by Kallor, for instance, but I viewed him as you view the Errant, like an interesting side to the story. But the Errant just deplorable.
He's a tragic example of an ascendant going completely bad. No honor left, no other goals than his own existence. Maybe it was something different way back, but it's not anymore.
I dunno, it's probably the fact that we see close up what he does to some of the characters that make him so realistically horrendous. Credit to SE for making such good character building.

Oh, and beside the fact that I don't like his persona, I also hate his philosophy and policies. He's the opposite to Ganoes in some ways. Ganoes believes that humans should have a chance to choose for themselves, that their lives matter. The Errant just plays with lives like they're just pieces in his game. Which they are in most cases. I think an ascendant like that should be put down. An immortal like that has lost it's right to serve, so to speak. Sheesh, not even ST with his flaws is that selfish and cynical.

Chaotic neutral is a roleplaying term for those characters that you can't predict what will do or how they react. They're free to be good one moment and be evil the next without actually taking a stance to any given situation.

I think the reason to why I like the Errant as an ascendant is that he fits very well with what I'd expect from a god. All that wishy washy lets save the little man stuff, I just don't believe you think that way after a hundred thousand years of existance. I think you'd be thoroughly detachted after so many thousands of years.

boredom probably

and didnt it say he almost cried himself at trulls death or he had to turn away, he just couldnt help himself or something like that.. always pulling and pushing. honestly how many people can you blame for Trulls death, one guy is already hurting in a huge way (the guy who actually stabbed trull)... that should be enough vengeance, not to mention whatever mael did to him.

I bet Mael went for him and then the Errant bound the god in a sacrificial bottle and threw Mael into a desert. Therefore we wont see Mael in the rest of the series.

There's a difference between liking how SE wrote the character, and liking the character. I think SE did an amazing job with the Errant. But I still hate him and disagree with his goals, policies and selfishness. And I don't find the Errant like a god with thousand of years of experience. In a way he reminds me of Kallor - that's all he learned? The Errant is too human, too petty, too much of an idiot to be considered having thousands of years of experience. Just like Kallor, he doesn't learn. Or rather, more correctly, he learned the wrong things. Mael, on the other hand, learned the right things. I guess it's a matter of what a person thinks are important in life. I'd believe that anyone that lives that long would, like Mael, figure out the importance of friendship, companionship, and fighting for someone else for a change. Just staying alive must get drudgingly boring after a million years or so. Personally, I'd probably take on a challenge, like saving a small life - it's not as easy as it seems, you know.

It's all about perspective, I guess.

euhm... Mael is still at Tehols's side, you know? The Errant was probably hit on the head by Mael real hard, after which the Errant told everything and Mael went and lifted up the stone the Acquitor so she could bury her spear and sword and then Mael went back to Tehol to rule the country (sort of).

and I totally agree with Gem. I even also believe gods would like to save a small human after a zillion years of living, just because they would know it's an important part of the game. Just as any decent chess player knows the pawns are quite tricky and sometimes decisive bastards, small people are too.

And the old man suddenly returned 'I found the Errant,' he said. 'We had much to ...discuss. It is how I learned of you, and of what hapened.

Guess Mael (if the old man in the last 2 pages really is Mael) survived his confrontation with the Errant.

I don't think Gods can just go and destroy other Gods out in the open....there has to be a balance...and i think Mael just going and killing the Errant would turn too many immortal heads...so he likely just thrashed him

Mael's way more powerful than the Errant, but god-killing doesn't seem to be his thing... I'm sure that Errant will gag att he sight of Fish for a while after that encounter...

Power amongst the Gods is no certainty though...I mean...let's be honest...we have no clue about the power scale in this damn world.

What gives me pause for thought is that the Errant went and powered up the hold tiles after he had been hoodwinked by Featherbitch, loosing an eye in the process and things in Lethereas were going....well...bonk in the night if you know what I mean. He was stressed. So...how good an idea was it really? Who reckons he might end up regretting it?

I'm just waiting for Toc to take over the Errant's body. Then everyone will like him again!
