Mott irregulars

Crump has a decent sized role in Reaper's Gale, somewhat similar to the earlier novels. Though on the outside he seems to be the fool, he has a knack for surviving and getting things accomplished. Just who are the Mott Irregulars anyway and how did they end up defeating the Malazan armies?

Read MEMORIES OF ICE.
Speculate accordingly.
- Abyss, has a knack for snacking.

I love this thread already. These Mott Irregulars have the same cool feeling as the Crimson Guard for me, this totally kick ass group of fighters that can knock the shiite out of the malazans, but in the end, just aren't big enough to stop the whole empire from expanding through their lands.
What I remember of Mott, they were encountered by the Malazan expansion on Genebackis. Malazans ran into em in a forest, and these guys just turned up and kicked a whole lot of ass. Enough to at least make the malazans go around the forest. They apparently have great mages, phenomenal tracking and wood skills, and a damn funny characters so far in the books. Malazan veterans say it was a nightmare in those woods.
They joined forces with Broods mercenary army to some extent to fight the malazans, though Brood seemed weary of them and Kallor down right hates em for some reason. That's interesting on its own, since Kallor probably knows something kick ass that we don't about how tough Motts can be. Kallor actually tried to keep em out of Coral, i think because he had a betrayal ambush planned in a forest and knew Motts could gut anyone in a forest and even mess up the ambush altogether.
They're funny, tough, smart and reputedly deadly mages.

Don't forget that they're apparently ALL related.

Wasn't there a reference to a big sister aswell?

That was only the bole(?) brothers, there's like 20 of them and 1 sister, and she's apparently the nastiest of the bunch.
But seeing as they might have settled down in the forest outside Black Coral after chasing off Korbal and Bauchelin, I'm sure they'll be back in TtH

I love the fact that they only have one rank... 'High Marshall'.
- Abyss, low marshall.

Yeah I really want to read more on the Crimson Guard and the Mott Irregulars. Now that Adjunct Tavore isn't following Laseen's orders anymore, I wonder do we see a grand alliance with Brood's forces, the CG, etc?

I loved the little bit about the Mott Irregulars in Memories Of Ice something about when they ran out of ammo and stuff they'd throw those sticky tart things,

What is great for me is that the malazan's keep on running into these amazing groups of fighters/mages that just seem to live in bizzare places. Now just imagine if the Motts and the ratcatchers would team up then just add a few malazan marines and damn what a team.

I was laughing SO hard about the whole table escapade in MOI... I think the Mott irregulars were the ones who first stole it form the BBs right?
