There's a national-level mma-event 50 meters from where I live in April. I think I'll go see it. Also includes some K1 -fights, the winner gets a ticket to K1 Scandinavia tournament.

Damn, they canceled the tournament due to low level of participants.

It's pretty obvious that both guys are pretty good at what they're doing, but also plain that Kimura is bigger, faster and stronger than Gracie. Heck, if that 1940s Kimura was transported to the present day, got a couple years of BJJ and striking training in, he'd probably be a top five at 185 or 205 now. He'd be like a Japanese Rampage. Jeebus.

I've got a question on the Kimura/Gracie fight, a couple of articles state that Kimura was regarded as using underhand tactics by trying to knock Gracie out with throws etc. Why is this underhand. The Brazilians painted this as a moral victory for Gracie since Kimura was 'cheating'. Can anyone explain this too me??

Out and out homerism. I speculate that what happened was that Gracie fell hard on a few throws, but I also think that he kept Kimura in half or full guard for most of the bout.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

just saw the first episode of Team Griffin v team Jackson Ultimate fighter.

I've deliberately avoided finding out anything about it so that the whole thing would be a surprise, and i've gotta say i really like the decision to start with 32 guys all in the same weight class, rather than splitting them.

looks like another cracking season ahead :p
meh. Link was dead :(

UFC this weekend! I'm looking forward to the GSP/Serra fight. I think Serra is going tto get destroyed. Although, I though the same thing the first time they fought.

Just watched GSP/Serra, St Pierre couldn't have owned him more if he had pulled his shorts down, greased him up and aimed for penetration. Comprehenisve and proof that St Pierre is far superior.

Just watched the thing (recorded it last weekend), just a few points:

1. how the hell did Lutter get back on a UFC card after his balls up with the weigh in before?
1a - And why did he bother coming back? I think he needs to move up a weight class, because he must have made weight by cutting like a m.f. before the fight. Seriously, he was so sluggish i just felt sorry for the guy.

2. Serra got comprehensively whupped. GSP is definitely the guy to beat to make a name for yourself, though i liked the level of post fight respect shown between the two.

speaking of post fight:

3. man, i loved Nate Quarry's post fight interview quote of Rocky IV. What was Starnes playing at? - just checked, apparently he broke his foot in the first round. He still did a pretty good job of moving away from Quarry at speed, broken foot and all.

4. Bisping looks pretty good at middleweight. Bad news for him is, Silva looks f***ing AWESOME at middleweight, so I don't see Silva losing to him in the future.
meh. Link was dead :(

I was thinking for a second that no one wanted to talk mma anymore. Anyone see the pic of Liddell's blown hamstring? Ugly stuff.

The first CBS mma show is on tonight. Kimbo headlining. I know he's a gimmick, andd not a true mma fighter yet, but damn it, I like to see him punch people in the face.

Edit: I don't know what I'm talking about. It's May 31, not tonight. I don't know what I was thinking.

I give Kimbo credit. He IS a true MMA fighter, and he's training with Bas Rutten, et al. Sure, he was a street brawler, but he's training with some of the top guys he can.

If by "take it", you mean "get murdered", then I agree. :D

Yeah, but he'd actually try and fight the number one heavyweight in the world, instead of running around the ring a la Kalib Starnes.

But remember, GSP lost to Serra once.

Kimbo has as good of a chance of beating fedor as Serra had of beating GSP. Not a chance in hell, unless he lands the perfect punch early. It could happen, but probably wouldn't. Serra beats GSP one in 100 tries. I think Kimbo could land the killer shot just as often.

Kimbo is that street fighter, right? The guy that supposedly knocked some guy's eyeball out of the socket with one punch?
