he needs to fight someone better than sokajue(sp?) before i take him seriously. hows about anderson silva for a test. silva wins hes an instant contender for his second belt.. machida wins and you can take him seriously

They have refused to fight each other as they're friends. Silva won't even try for the LHW belt because he feels like it belongs to Machida. Weak. Silva has too many damn friends he won't fight.

weaksauce. hes had enough easy fights.. give him someone just as technical but with some actual big wins under his belt. perhaps dan henderson, though i think henderson is too far past his prime to win

Yeah, Henderson is one of the greats, but getting a little old. It doesn't help that he always fights great fighters. Give the guy a break. I think Machida would pick Henderson apart. He's too fast, and has the tools to take away Henderson's strength, the clinch/wrestling game.
I don't know who, other than Anderson Silva, is the best matchup with Machida. I'd like to see if he can handle Jardine's power. Chuck would be a good fight. If Rampage fought like he's capable of instead of how he fought against Forrest, he would be a good fight. Wandi would be interesting, but again maybe a little too old and slow.

rampage, chuck, and jardine are not technical fighters and they'll get picked apart by someone with the speed machida apparently has and the skill he has at landing blows that score points(hes went to decision in all but one ufc fight). henderson can take away machidas comfort zone, which is fighting from a distance. i think the greco roman matches up very well. silvas a bit of the opposite but ends up with the same result of countering machidas distance fighting comfort zone; hes very long and faster than machida and very technical with his strikes.
a nice standup fight id like to see that will never happen would be machida/crocop. crocop is small enough to drop down and has the type of game that would probably frustrate machida just as much as silva would with the constant precise leg strikes

The problem is there really aren't any LHWs that match up with Machida's speed and technical striking, so the only hope is to get someone with enough power to overwhelm him. Throw Houston Alexander at him, maybe he rushes in and gets a quick KO. If not, he's toast though. Although this is not a step towards higher competition like machida needs. No one matches up well with him, maybe he is the next champ.

griffin has a good chance to compete if for nothing else because hes in his prime and hes more active than machida during the fight. if he improves his standup by then as much as he has in the past year or two ill give him a better than 50% chance to win. even if it goes to a decision, griffin is the more active fighter and a lot of times that leads to winning more rounds vs the one big flurry each round.
id still rather machida face someone like henderson though prior to him getting a title shot. maybe wandy, maybe rampage. too bad it cant be anderson silva

Yeah, he hasn't really been tested yet. I still haven't seen his tito fight. I know it's free somewhere on the internets but I don't do the piracy thing. I'll have to wait until it comes out on dvd and rent it.

I have to ask this - am i the only person on the board who actively LIKES watching Lyoto Machida fight?
I know people make a fuss about him darting in and out, but honestly, to win without getting hit like he does is, to me at least, the absolute epitome of a standing game.
I truly believe he is a great fighter because of the way he fights, whereas i've seen other boards where his fighting style is dismissed out of hand.
thoughts? or am i alone on this?

Agree with you totally. Machida is far from passive too, he's evasive but also attacks constantly. Though as in the posts above, he needs more high-level fights. Looking forward to seeing those.

I liked it Brawlers can be fun, but even more fun is seeing someone defeat them intelligently by technique and tactics. Just my taste though ...

Any fight involving Tito getting punched in the face and losing is a good fight for me.

Why on earth would you hit and run with a truck that has your name on it?
- 10 pts for Rampage.
- 10 pts for Rampage.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Good weekend for mma coming up. I need to figure out somewhere to watch the Affliction fights for free. I would be more inclined to take them seriously as a legit mma promoter if there wasn't a freaking Megadeth concert as part of the ppv.
