Maynard was winning the fourth round - before he got clobbered and finished. I agree with you that he fought passively, but part of that is due to Edgar being so damn hard to hit without exposing yourself and so quick at shucking free from takedown attempts. The commentators talk about being elusive, but Edgar perhaps defines it in MMA like no other. Anderson does it in a different style - he just isn't where you punch - while Edgar constantly does the just out of reach thing.

That fight was on its way towards being a carbon copy of the second one (a draw). Absolutely bonkers finish though.

The Bellator card was pretty entertaining as well. Don't sleep on that either.

His background and recent string of knockout finishes make Stann a relatively good mixture of what appeals to the mainstream. There's not quite the Liddell-like edge, but you probably can see what I mean. He makes for an even better platform for Sonnen to spring off en route to Silva/Sonnen II though.

I bet Stann gets matched up against the loser of Munoz/Leben.

Watch the takedown BJ got on Diaz for I feel like Diaz worked on that series of reactions specifically to try and offset the takedowns GSP will get on him. Scrambles are more advantageous for Diaz than for GSP.

I watched all the fights live on facebbok except Guida-Bendo and the main event (needed to get my drink on), and got most my picks right. I thought JDS would win but thought Cain would get a couple takedowns and JDS would get the tko in the third round. I was actually hoping it would go a few rounds, but hell, as long as Junior won I'm happy!

Bendo got the win as I expected and "Bruce Leroy" looked pretty good in his last two fights. Can't wait to see him again. And a bunch of the other guys on the undercard looked awesome.

This was the best night of MMA in a long, long time.

Bellator delivered. In any other year, Chandler/Alvarez would be a fight of the year candidate. Cosmo Alexandre delivered a naaasty KO too.

But UFC 139 dominates the coverage. That was an amazing event from top to bottom. Legendary main event.

Yeah that was great. SO happy Wand got the win. Maybe a bit early of a stoppage but I don't care. Nice to see him bring those knees back like a beast!

One of the best UFCs ever. Hendo is one of my heroes. Strange how beautiful MMA can be.

Edit: Wand said in an interview that he did Cung Le a favour, with his new nose he looks more like a real fighter. No disrespect though, he praised him alot first.

I haven't seen much MMA in recent years to be honest, but I got to see the preview programme for UFC 140 on ESPN tonight and it looks like it could be really good.

I really liked the fact that JONES and MACHIDA didn't feel the need to talk smack about each other, just a healthy inner confidence, and respect for the opponent. Plus the highlight reels for those 2 fighters look really impressive.

A question for the serious MMA guys here though. How do you see the fight going? Does MACHIDA have a good chance or is JONES as good as the hype suggests?

I would like to hear an answer to that as well. I vaguely recall Jones' early UFC appearance and being impressed, but I've fallen out of touch with the sport. All of a sudden we have Jones with the belt, out of nowhere. I swear, the light heavyweight belt never stays put.

I have said for probably a year now over on InStrength that Machida has the best chance to beat Jones of any of the current UFC LHWs. Jones is still raw enough that if you take away his favorite things to do (takedowns from the clinch, ground and pound, long range strikes), he can be beaten by someone smart enough to find the range and quick enough to get in and out. I like Machida's lefty tendences and his clinch defense is pretty damn good.

Machida seemingly fits all of those things and I think he has the footwork to outpoint Jones. It's still going to be a harder fight for him to win than it is for Jones.

Jones has more power and has a much greater range to his strikes, but if he can be dumped on his back or outpointed, Machida is probably the one to do it outside of Mo Lawal.

205 is a friggin' sharkpit. Two years and change ago I thought Jones and Mousasi would be rising to the top of the division. I was only half right though.

Well well colour me impressed. Jones really displayed an all around skill set against Machida. He fought smart too; when he couldn't nail down Machida, he goes for the takedown. Some crisp kicks, maybe not quite as fast as those of his opponent, but good nonetheless. He really worked his reach in an intelligent way. Machida is a great fighter, and to see him being taken out by a standing submission was surprising. The styles of these guys also added an extra level to the fight.

Oh man, Frank Mir the Opportunist. He was outclassed on his feet, no doubt about that. Poor big Nog, the injury will likely set his career back and, depending on how serious the injusry was, he'll be lucky to be on the scene anytime within the next couple years.

These two last UFCs were fantastic. And Big Nog and Machida are two of my heroes. Both were finished in really painful ways, but they fought great. Mir was a bit callous about it after I think, but I guess that goes with the territory. Hope Nog recovers.

Broken humerus is better than a dislocated shoulder or elbow. Only concern is the potential nerve damage, rather than the ligaments and so on. His brother (Lil Nog) estimates a return in five months. His manager says nine months.

I knew it wasn't the shoulder at the time, but was worried that the elbow had been popped loose. If there's a serious upper arm injury to have, that's probably one of the better ones to get.
