Just finished DhG and lil ways into MoI, so i would say my fav from Malazan are:
Coltaine
Felisin (Her character is able to draw a lot of emotion, much of which is frusteration)
Toc the Younger (witty bastard)
Paran and Kalam
oooh and Rake
my fav from other books are
Pug and Thomas (Feist)
Gerald Terrant (Friedman)
James (Feist)
I just started reading again, so I got caught onto these books and figured id follow along the forum, even though its hard to talk in here without seeing spoilers *sigh*

Anasûrimbor Kellus (even though I hope someone kicks his *%&$@ up through his eyes)
and Achamian and Cnaiür -Bakker
Tyrion and Jaime Lannister-Martin
Rake, Kruppe, and Duiker -Erikson
and, like 9/10ths of the other posters here, Fitz-Hobb

After reading the first 4 books of MBotF, I have to say I really liked all the characters and found them interesting to varying degrees -- except for the following:
Kruppe
Felisin
Silverfox
Silverfox's mother
I found those characters and their story lines to be frustrating/annoying/overlong distractions from otherwise perfect novels (IMHO).

Elric, as the prototypical anti-hero in fantasy, and Fahfred and the Grey Mouser, just for being so astonishingly laid back.

Here's my five cents worth:
Same as Good's choice, The Bridgeburners make it to the list but most of all Fiddler/Strings (I can't believe he hasn't shown up on the lists before now)
Gruntle
Roland of Gilead
Uther Dole (from Mievilles "the Scar")
Elric of Melnibone (I'll probably name my firstborn Elric when that time comes)
Conan (especially the original Robert E. Howard stories)

She was one of the more memorable characters of the farseer tril. I enjoyed her chapters alot.

Here are my top 5, in no particular order,
1. Roland (The Dark Tower)
2. Severian (Book of the New Sun)
3. Tyrion Lannister
4. Rand al'Thor
5. Anasurimbor Kellhus (despite there only being two books, he is awesome)
There are so many great characters in Erikson's books, I have a hard time picking, although his series is my favorite right now.

I have just finished a re-read of ASoIaF, and realized just how cool Tyrion is. Thought Shagga and Bronn from GRRM are still cooler

I really enjoyed the original 'Theives WOrld' work - the latter ones were pretty sub-par IMHO.
The first ones may be the best shared-world books I have read.

I've already done characters from Erikson, Martin and Mieville. But here are a few more from other authors who are equally great:
Gene Wolfe (it is fantasy!!):
Severian, the torturer
Fritz Leiber:
Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser
Michael Moorcock:
Elric
M John Harrison:
Tomb, the dwarf, from Viriconium
Norvin Trinor (also from Viriconium)

Love all these. Kind of a brisk walk down amnesia lane.

I am pretty archaic but - Turin Turambar (Silmarillion) is the most tragic, oedipian and his story just breaks heart
after him equally:
Elric
Tyrion and Jamie Lanister (Martin)
Oberon, Mandor, Merlin (Zelazny)
Shadow, Morpheus (Gaiman) - bone, I totally agree - Dream is awesome.
Icarium, Trull Sengar, Coltaine
Shard (Hobb)
Thomas Covenant
btw. did you notice the painfull absence of the ladies at these lists? Only Arya, Felisin and Tattersail
I wonder, why?

Thought about another one, Lady Patience from Hobb's farseer trilogy, I really enjoyed every scene she was in

"If you got dragnipur'd, chaos would move closer."
- Ancient Malazan insult

I want to add Seamuss Finnigan, and Jack Carter to the list from a book I just read, the forthcoming 'Vellum' from Hal Duncan.
