These things just take time, but at least we get this.
A lot of authors make you buy a paperback of their previous novel for the upcoming prologue...jeez.
Have some freaking gratitude. It gets frustrating waiting...but it is worth it in the end.

You aren't "entitled" to anything, really. Look, I'm not trying to get into an argument with you....what i'm saying is SE and his publishers have been great enough to allow the posting of prologues early here (a credit to this site and it's reputation and admins like Hetan, btw) so be grateful for what you have. Is it taking a while? Yeah. Wouldn't we all love to have it? Of course. But flaming off at the one person who is very helpful in getting us these prologues is only going to hurt your case. In the grand scheme of things, is it worth getting that upset about? The alternative is you waiting until he books come out, right? Again...not a big deal but it is a nice perk we have here in getting a sneak preview.
SE and his publishers don't have to do shit. He's obviously a successful author now, and I'm sure a lot of authors feel making their audience wait for anything only helps the publicity and stir surrounding their works. Others, like SE, probably like the idea of giving their audience a taste. I'm glad he is like that, and therefore, I'm not going to get all pissy that we haven't gotten it yet.
I'd rather have a great prologue from both guys who have meticulously made certain that we don't have any spoilers and such.
End Rant

If worst comes to worst, we just wait for the books to come out. My advice would be to purge the need of the prologue out of your mind, it's not essential. And the chances are we will get it when the time is right, and we can.
This isn't to say my opinion has changed one bit.

Not only is there no "entitlement", but Reaper's Gale wasn't even by the same author - did you not even know that?

Well played Brood, well played.
Also, it has been said before that ICE has been VERY careful that his book is to his standards (this of course includes the prologue) and won't spoil or run anything.

haha well obviously i was talking about the TtH prologue and i brought NoK so therefore i should be entitled to RotCG as well according to Xander's theory at least.
Which is a pretty fair theory seeing as how i buy the books earlier pay more for it and end up without a prologue for the next one you would think they would post it online to give give you some incentive wouldn't you?

I don't think they have to give us anything, even though I would love to be able to read both the prologues. however, if Return is due out in March/April by PS, wouldn't it stand to reason that everything is done? Even if we don't get the prologues beforehand, I've got the PS Return on the way, so not too much longer to wait. Either way you can't complain too much, two Malazan books in one year, as opposed to one ASOIAF every what 3 to 5 years. as much as I love both series, the pace Malazan books come out is phenomenal.

PS Publishing still need to go through 15 odd publications before they get to RotCG, I'm not sure how fast that will go though. There's no indication on their site.

they sent me an email saying they still plan to publish in March or April. apparently no later, for as much as it costs it better be well before August, or I want some money back.

You aren't entitled to anything but the books you buy. Getting free content before publication dates is just a bonus.

wtf are you talking about? You aren't making any sense.
Just quit complaining. We'll get it when we get it.

Has anyone heard anything new from PS regarding the release date?
They still have Early 2008 on their site. It's early 2008 now damnit!

They are trying to keep to an April deadline, so whether they will is tenuous. April or May is the best bet.
I'll do some research and report back if I find anything different.

wtf we are waiting for the prologue not whatever other stuff hetan is getting for herself this shit is pissing me off to no end we where promised MONTHS ago its finished and ready but we still don't have it its enough to make me stop reading their books there's plenty of other good books i could read instead.
I've only just caught up with this thread so apologies for the lateness of the response.
Right now I am pretty pissed off about this post. I don't know you, and you don't know me, so therefore I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for being a relative noob here.
Firstly.. Authors do not have to post unpublished works on the internet for the benefit of their fans. The fact that Steve and ICE are happy to have their prologues posted is down to :-
1) His good will
2) His publisher's good will
3) Steve's relationship with his fans, and ICE's which is just developing.
4) Certain people (and I am only one of many) badgering their publishers for those prologues.
Now I have no idea what you think I am getting for myself?
Firstly, I am already an advance reader of both Steve and ICE's books, therefore what could I be getting for myself that I don't already have?
Secondly, what I am trying to do for the members of this forum, is to get advance news, prologues, information or other goodies that otherwise they would be waiting for, when the next book is published, and not before.
Why am I doing this?
I'm doing this because I love Steve's books, and I know what it's like to have to wait for each new book to come out and to WANT to know more.
And I've been doing that since Gardens of the Moon came out so I know, probably better than you do, how hard that is.
If you wish to call my integrity into question any further then please do so by private message.

@ Hetan:
I think you correctly identified this as noob behavior. I don't believe anybody has a right to unpublished copy of any type and fans will understand that the more it's repeated and knocked on their heads. I, and many others here, greatly appreciate what you've done and the efforts you've made. Criticism of the publishing process and the timing of any willingly released digital content is simply not warranted.

I am going to try to be civil with what follows but I may lapse on occasion.
You were promised what exactly? Yes, the first draft was finished quite some time ago. Some advance readers post on this forum and thought to keep interested parties informed. This is obviously the source of your discontent, which begs the question 'Would you rather be ignorant?', but of course you are ignorant in a different sense of the word so your answer would be meaningless. The fact is that a lot of people appreciate being kept informed as to the progress of things and if it causes you so much frustration then just avoid the relevant threads or fuck off in general.
The simple fact is that after we read the first draft and offer advice, we have absolutely no control on what happens after. Cam decides when he's happy with the prologue that he's willing to offer to the internet audience and then the publishers have to copyedit it and then let us post it.
Also, being an advance reader is a thankless job - Sure, we get to read the manuscripts in advance but we cannot talk about them and we're culpable if any important details are missed. Acquiring this privilege was a difficult process which you are invited to figure out for yourself. We owe you not a fucking thing.

This is just absurd. Different publishers, aside from the fact that the TtH prologue hadn't even been written yet. Bah, you are clearly a fool with an inflated opinion of your own worth. Come to England and we'll talk. Cheers

i'm sure there's a posse of intellectual property lawyers involved at some point as well; most of whom these days don't have a clue about viral marketing via that interweb thingy.
